Chieftain Explorer?

NOPE!

I do like the Chieftain, i've spent some time in Beta engineering (Thank heavens for Material trader!) but alas it's not gunna get much better than 32ly

I do long for a new explorer ship, maybe the illusive Panther Clipper will be the one, a huge ship able to carry everything you need for deep space exploration. I could tick a lot of boxes if we had a ship that could be engineered to 100ly. Please though, no comments about crossing the galaxy quickly, for me range has nothing to do with going somewhere quickly. Its about exploring, there is nothing quick about exploring trust me!

Cheers,

I'll go back under my rock now

PS - Really pleased to see the lack of beige and will start playing in earnest when the rest of the planet quality improvements kick in. So see you in the black around Christmas :D

Keep all the stats of the Imperial Clipper. Fast, Agil, good supercruise handling and lots of optional module slots.
Increase it jump range to Anaconda level or above.
Let the ship run a little cooler.
Give a new 3D ship model
Call it the Imperial Explorer

UPDATE - Found a Bug - The actual range is 38.5 ly but the right panel indicates 30ly

More testing required..

Yeh the bug seems to be that the functions tab jump range does not update in the engineer workshop, apparently u have to go to outfitting screen for it to 'update'.

Nice. Also needs a rock solid FSD (maintains integrity) and balanced with less hard points and small cargo as well.

I setup mine as a combat explorer in the Beta and it will do well enough.

Jump range is perfectly acceptable, unless you are trying to reach systems no one else can, but then you'd just have used an anaconda anyway.

Internals are a bit lackluster for a pure explorer, but unless you are exceedingly careless, you can skip the AFMU and have everything else you need for protracted journeys.

I hold out hope that the Krait will be made with explorers in mind. Until then, I'll keep enjoying my Asp Explorer

Doubt it, since the cockpit view is partially blocked by the wings of the ship. Multi-purpose or combat focused is fine, I don't want the Krait as a dedicated explorer. I want an exploration ship, but just not the Krait.

My DBx currently has a range of 50ly, and that is without having other modules optimized for exploration. It has a great view and good handling.

I don't use it for long range exploration because I like to carry SLFs with me, but I just started this last trip and realized that I left the SLF at home by mistake...

I want a perfectly spherical glass ball with two of each size module slots, a class 9 FSD and weighs 100t.

Anything less than that is unacceptable for an explorer.

I don't know how you set up your explorer OP, but my Chieftain does 39 Ly jumps with SRV bay and al the other explorer equipment. Boost speed is 450 m/s :D

Edit: didn't see your correction 38.5 is good enough ...
