Chieftain Scout

I'd like to propose a Chieftain variant that is the Scout.

I propose dropping one of the Military bays for a single class 4 slot for any item, so it's much easier to fit an SRV but be a decent fitted bounty hunter and mission ship. Also maybe a small buff in it's jump range.

For balance it could be reconfigured to have one large weapon slot and 3 medium slots - but don't touch it's handling, it's a great ship to fly.
 
I think we need different ships from the original game more so that rehashing ships already in game.
 
Well.. what the OP described is pretty much a Federal Dropship :p

Anyway, removing the military restriction from a slot is actually a major buff, so it's not really a 'scout version'.. Now dropping ALL of the military slots, changing the 6 slot to a 5.. and then adding that additional regular 4 slot along with your weapon change suggestions.. Now that would be a 'scout' version imo.

Can you link a build where you desperately need that extra 4 slot and it involves SRVs? Because the way I see it the extra size 2 slot is exactly intended for that.. a class 2 planetary hangar.
 
Here's an example, I've created a "Salvage ship" that can fight small and medium ships easily in Rez sites and nav beacons, while still being able to collect mats. I suppose it works.

The idea is that I'm using this to grind up engineers with some of my medium sized ships, and using this to speed things up along with the material traders.

It seems the Chieftain isn't limited, you just have to be focused:

But I'd still settle for dropping the MilSlot and adding at least another 2 (or even 2 + 1).

Tl;dr Drop 1 Military stot, give a 2 + 1 and drop, optionally drop a large to 3 mediums and give a jump range buff

Id still prefer something not yet in the game, I know we are all waiting the Krait, and as for the mythological pather clipper well I think they have a mail slot issue ongoing still. :)
