Chieftain shields 3 V 1

I had a similar Chieftain vs 3 Anaconda battle yesterday. I managed to kill 2 and had the shields down the last but had to flee with 15% hull and 10% canopy as his SLF was wearing me down and he was running PA's - I figured one mistake and I was toast. Shame, I woulda liked to have killed all 3. Perhaps I should have been braver!

I run 3 PA's and 3 small rails. 2 super-pen and 1 feedback cascade on the rails (from what I have read recently my 1 small feedback cascade rail isn't actually doing much to the SCB recharge so I might just switch it over to a super-pen - More research and experimentation needed!). PA's are efficient, the rails short-range seeing as all my combat takes place up close and personal.

I run a class 6 Bi-Weave, can't remember exactly what it and the boosters are but basically it's engineered for resistances and fast recharge. It never goes down against small opponents. Make a mistake against a big one and it gets stripped immediately but it soon comes back up. Saves a huge amount of damage that would otherwise need to be soaked up by the armour. The rest is HRP's (x4)and MRP's (x3). Ship is all engineered for speed and light-weight (where possible, I'm carrying an awful lot of armour!).

It's an absolute killer. I suspect it'd be useless in PvP due to it's short ranged weaponry but in any sort of PvE situation it's a hoot.

I'd certainly ditch the enhanced low power in favor of thermal/fast charge, and use a c6 bi-weave.

I run 3x c1 feedback rails for the combination of increased RoF (reload time is faster than super pen), thermal load reduction and SCB negation.
If you want to snipe modules, maybe put a superpen in the c2?

You can also match the PA projectile speed with a cannon in the c2.
Seeker missiles are another fun option.

edit: Also I see E grade HRPs, I would not engineer those, but use D rated instead.
Same for the MRP, use D rated.
They are stronger and lighter.

I have several weapon loadouts I like to swap between: 2x OC PA's (TLB & Dispersal) and 4x Frags, three with screening, one with corrosive. This is a real smashmouth build, and probably my favorite. The second is 2x Efficient PA's, same specials, 1x medium LR Rail w/Feedback, 3x LR Rail w/Superpen.

Both builds work with a 6C Biweave Thermal Resist Fast Recharge shield generator & 2x RA Boosters. The rest is hull tank. The philosophy is that the shields are crap no matter what you do, so better to have high resists and a fast rebuild from being broken. There is nothing IN pVe short of a thargoid or ATR that's going to so much as make you flinch with either of these builds.

Are you doing packhounds on the Medium on the Chieftain? Only gives you one set, right? I guess you can always synthesise the ammo. Personally I’m finding an overcharged turret multi on the medium is taking care of most of my needs, but am always looking to try something better.

This was back on my FDL. 5x Packhounds. Weeee! Or, more sensibly: 2!

Just bought myself a Chieftain and in the process of tooling up...

I tried this initially but couldn't get on with it as the medium and small rails do not fire at the same time which got on my nerves. Much prefer the 3 PA's/3 Rails set up.

I have gone 3 PAs (larges and medium) and the rest rails. Works pretty well.

But I think the major issue with that fight wasn't your weapons. On a basic level, with their gimballed weapons, they had a high uptime on you, and you had a low uptime on them for your load out. If you had cracked that expert conda's shields at the beginning (when you do get them very low) you would have had a much better time of it.

My main suggestions would be-
1) Trade some heatsinks for Chaff. That would go a long way to solving the DPS uptime disparity.
2) Stop boosting so much. The Chieftain is not best used as a strafer. It's an agile ship at speed. Fly it with minimal boost and maximum agility (Think FAS, not FDL).
3) Use what is given. In this engagement, an Anaconda is not only a big target, it is slow, and it would also be a serviceable shield. Your Chieftain could have danced around your target and kept it between one of your foes (at least some of the time). Imagine yourself taking less damage from your foes, chaffing when they get an angle, and unloading your weapons on your target at close range.

Please understand that I hold you in the highest regard. This is just the strategy I would take with that loadout and engagement.

I finally gave in to the dark side and bought a Chieftain. I stripped my FAS so I could get her up and running. I must say I really loved her. They cleaned up the worst of the slide and she is really fun to fly.

I don't usually do well with fixed weapons, but I put rails on all the small hardpoints. I took her out in a low res just to practice the rails and had a lot of fun, and actually hit things with the rails.

Have 2 large gimbaled MCs and a medium beam, after that I dropped a 6C Bi-weave in, engineered for thermal.

I love fighting this ship, it's like a cross between a FAS and a DBS.

I have PA’s too on the 3 largest hardpoints, but I am thinking about trying a beam laser with Thermal Vent on the medium hardpoint, turreted perhaps, to cool the ship. Have anyone tried that? How effective is it?
