Chieftain Weapon options

Just an FYI, the guardian weapons only come in class 2.

I’m alternating between 4 efficient beams with dual high-cap pacifiers and 4 efficient pulses with a guardian plasma. I like the pulse and plasma more.

I am a big fan of the sheer number of loadout options on this ship. Combined with the new easybake SFX I can test-drive a lot of configurations.

In general, the thing I've noticed about the Chieftain is that there isn't much overlap in the fields-of-fire between the top and bottom hardpoints - it's a bit like the Viper in that regard.
As a result, it's probably not a good idea to put, say, an MC in one of the top hardpoints and in the belly hardpoint 'cos it'll be difficult to hit a target with them both at the same time.

Personally, I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to weapons (or "boring" if you prefer :p).
I've just got a C3 beam and a pair of C1 beams clustered together at the top.
I've then got a C3 MC and a C1 MC together just below the lasers.
Finally, there's a C2 rail for annoying big ships.

The "normal" weapons can easily take care of anything up to, say, an iClipper or FGS and anything bigger than that is slow enough that I can give it a pounding with the rail.

Chieftain is, IMO, the best combat ship in the game. [up]

I have put 2 Guardian Plasmas, 1 Guardian Gauss Cannon and 3 small Railguns on it, just to see what happens.

Well, that is brutal and fun. But probably not efficient at all.
Only problem is the heat management, especially since i put a Guardian PP on it. But doable.

Using mine with either:

2xAPA efficients TLB
3x rails long range with feedback cascade
1x packhound with high cap mag

The 2 c3 i also use 2xc3 OC multis with incendiary. Or 2 x Pulse focused 1 with scramble spectrum.

This last combo has proven to be really effective, tested VS a friend FAS

Another good combo are double shot pacifiers.

Thanks for the info, Am carrying 4 heat sinks with plenty of synthesis. It's not an all out combat ship, just selective strikes. I guess I could add Thermal Conduit when ever I am using focused.

Currently happy with the long range mod (shot speed makes a huge difference) it's more the other hardpoints I am thinking about, will likely just end up with OC multi cannons.

Yep shot speed is really important on PACs imo, more so than heat efficiency. I run two focussed on my Chieftain and am constantly skirting around the heat damage warning. However, the shots almost never miss, and my other weapons are relatively cool. I've filled one of the class 1 slots with a turreted rapid fire scramble spectrum burst laser, and the other two I'm still largely unsure of. The class 2 slot gets a super pen imperial hammer, naturally.

Ok thanks, already have the tech brokers. I guess I have to visit these new guardian sites, wasn't actually planning on doing the puzzles etc, can I just visit up pick up the guardian tech required? Does shooting these new guardian skimmers drop needed materials?

Thanks

Jump via Jackson's Lighthouse, there is a second N* on the way, sorry i forget the name, its just seven jumps to the new sites in my DBX that way mate.

I have only just finished modifying my Chief this past weekend. I love the way that it flies.

Heres the loadout I use:
2x Small G5 LR Rails w Peni-Traitor
1x Gauss Cannon
1x Small G4 HC MC w Corrosive
2x Lg G5 OC MC both with Thermal Shock

Used it in the CG this past weekend. Liked it, but Ive decided to swap the Lg MCs for either G5 OC Cannons w High Yield or 2xShot Frags (and match the remaining small wep w Corrosive). I like the MCs, but I just dont feel like theyre dishing out enough dmg (even with a spec fx that doesnt penalize dps).

Also, I like the triangular RG setup. The Gauss Cannon fires about a half-second after the Rails, giving just enough time to correct my aim.

Great Ship!

This ship is very fun to use -and practice- in FAOFF mode and, if you use fixed weapons, the fun is double!

This is the configuration that I currently use in PvE / HazRes: https://bit.ly/2ISDsMt

If I want to do PVP, change the Bi-weabe shield generator for one prismatic with Reinforced + Hip Cap.

Another possibility that I want to try is, change the Pacifier Frag-Cannon for some Advanced Plasma accelerator overcharged + dispersal Field + Target Lock Breaker (PvP) or focused + Phasing Sequence (PVE) for example...

It is great, so much fun to fly. Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to unlock the Guardian tech? I just can't bring myself to do it, did a few sites, then went back to my normal game play.

You know you can activate the pylons using a ship's weapons, right?

Best (by which I mean most enjoyable) way to do it (IMO) is to show up in Open and then team-up with somebody else who's around.
Guy in SRV goes and collects a relic and then just waits at the machine while somebody in a ship powers the pylons and melts drones.

Course, this was fairly risk-free while the Gnosis was on-station cos getting exploded just meant you re-spawn aboard the Gnosis.
I think that's re-located now though.

Hehe. My Chieftains setup is far from optimal, but i like it a lot.
.
- Two huge APAs, focused, one with dispersal field and one with dazzle Shell.
- One gimballed medium beam, efficient with thermal vent, to keep heat under control. (Without it the APAs sometimes have to pause. )
- Three C1 Enforcer cannons. Two overcharged with auto-loader, one high capacity with corrosive shell.
.
I am aware that the Enforcers are a complete oddball choice. But i got me a stack of them ages ago during my tour through (almost) all powers and the Chieftains three small hardpoints really support them well. The ship is agile enough to get them on target, and for C1 weapons they pack quite a punch.
.

Here's mine:
Two focused APA'S target lock breaker and anti sensor mod.
Medium MC overcharged corrosive.
Two small cannon push mod and explosive rounds.
Small pulse with malfunction mod.
Bi-weave shields, reinforced with fast charge.
Whatever the most expensive armour is with therm resistance and HRP's with a mix of therm, kinetic and explosive resist for 35% resist across the board (HRP's not finished yet) and some MRP's thrown in for good measure.
Works well apart from my lack of piloting proficiency!

Its not really quick, but I think down the road its going to really payoff. Now, if you like hunting goids. I only own 2 ships wo railguns, so the gauss cannons were a no-brainer.

You obviously want the tech. I would say pick out what you want, do the math on the mats, get an exp ship (fitted w 2 SRVs & at least 12 cargo), and just dedicate a day to it. Its actually really fun.
https://elitepve.com/viewtopic.php?t=7179 I used mostly this guide. This part is good for the datas. I didnt complete the other one yet, but you can go to the structures and gather guardian mats without doing the puzzle. And DO kill the sentinels for their parts. Theyre a lil tough (cough ammo upgrade) but worth it. Relog, rinse, Repeat..

I did my first run with another CMDR in Open, but at the end he didn't get the scan from Sphere, only I got it.
We thought only one CMDR can get it per run, so we just continued doing solo.

I run:

  • 2x C3 - Trigger 1 - G5 Long Range APAs with Plasma Slug
  • 1x C2 - Trigger 2 - G5 High Capacity Mag Pack-hound Rack
  • 1x C1 - Trigger 2 - G5 High Capacity Corrosive Enforcer Cannon
  • 2x C1 - Trigger 2 - G5 Over Charged Auto Loader Enforcer Cannons

The good things about this setup are that:

  • All the fixed weapons have almost exactly the same aiming point because all projectiles are traveling at nearly the same speed.
  • It's a lot of fun.

I you double the ship's fuel capacity, you can stay out a long time firing the Plasma Slugs.

*** Man I wish we could have a one or two more triggers!!!!!

Re Data : With all due respect, I started using that guide then realised a few mistakes, omissions & how hard it was to comprehend, and did my own. Link in my sig :)

Legit. Takes some time to get used to whats going on, and where to go for what.

Reps!
