Chiggy's new ELW hunt.....

I have just started a survey of a random subsector in the galactic core. My plan is to not only find out how many ELW bearing "D" systems there are in this subsector, but also to list how many did not, and to catalog the results according to main star class and magnitude. The subsector I wound up choosing is ZUNOU IN-B D13 with 13,202 "D" systems. Thanks to my friend CMDR Guywano for the inspiration.

Departure pics, and my finds so far.....

Excellent OP. I look forward to seeing the results of your survey.

Well, guess I should prepare to start a separate List of Chiggy's Earth-like Worlds then.
Looking forward to the results, and good luck out there!

Bloody hell Chiggy, almost half a million level 3 scans??? I hope you have your scanner insured for wear and tear.

As the mad man leaves dock once again, we all bid him farewell and to make sure those small eggs he picked up at station don't hatch and devour him.

I got the bug on the scan numbers, like a *few* others..my best guess is 50k actual maybe? all the rest of the stats are pretty accurate I believe.

Here is my snapshot before i left for Jaques a few days ago. I have about two thirds of your profit and have visited about two thirds as many systems as you and also have about two thirds of your total hyperspace distance.

I have what i think is an accurate number of level 3's at 50000 so if the logic holds, yours would be more like 75000.

I have driven at least a couple more km in the SRV though. And I noticed we also have nearly identical times played. Almost 3 whole months of in game time. Scary. :)

You're crazy. I predict 217 ELWs.

We ought to start a pool on how many I find....I call 220 (that's a 1 in 60 average) maybe award a prize at the end...?

So how come you can find lots and lots of ELW's, yet I've been out in the Void again for a few days and haven't even found one. :)

And I'm not exactly an inexperienced explorer :p

Do you have some theory or method which you use? Or is it more a case of the sheer amount of systems visited (e.g. jump and honk and move on if there's no ELW there) ?

A little of both actually. Nothing beats sheer numbers of systems visited. Then you cherry pick on top of it. In this particular subsector, I am checking every "D" system, I want to possibly refine my search tactics with my findings.

On average, if you just plot a straight course, and take whatever the nav computer spits out...you find an ELW about 1 in every 225 systems.

If you plot the same course, but do each jump manually, choosing JUST "F" class stars (which will always be "D" numbered systems) your average will shoot up to around 1 in 75

Once you find an ELW, if you search the "D" systems closeby, you can raise that average a bit further, cause they just about always come in groups and clusters.
