Choice of bodywork

Ships come equipped with lightweight alloys. Good Outfitters also offer:
  • Reinforced Alloys
  • Military Grade Composite
  • Mirrored Surface Composite
  • Reactive Surface Composite

I've been using Mil Grade as the description suggests that it's a good all-rounder, but I've been eyeing the Mirrored and Reactice ones as well.

On the assumption (which may be false) that most attackers (i.e., mostly NPCs, there being more of them ATM) will first fry your shields with lasers and then use projectiles on your naked hull, would it be more sensible to go for Reactive Surface instead of Mil Grade?

Has anyone had any experience of the relative effectiveness, in actual battle, of the last three in that list?

If you are going to use armour the military you have is a safe bet.

I've used the reactive against an elite anaconda, it probably took 10x the normal damage from its lasers, but if it has any kinetic weapons they would have shredded me.

I think more NPCs use lasers than multicannons.
