Horizons Choice of fighter

So recently got a fighter hangar for my gunship

are there any suggestions for best ship/loadout or even which ones to avoid at all cost

do you want to pilot the fighter or the gunship?

and do you plan on ranking crew, or hire and fire?

higher ranked crew is amazing with fixed weapons, and only the condor has a variant with fixed MC.

i personally love piloting the imperial fighter most, running beams, stripping shields, while my crew backs me up and finishes them.

Lot of people will vouch for the Imp Fighter.

Taipan if you think you will want to take a couple of hits and still survive.

Condor has a lot of speed and some nice weapon loadouts. There are some very, very vehement complaints about its lateral/vertical thrusting (personally I think they can deal if they want the Condor to have the a better speed than an Imperial equivalent...)

I also vote for iFighter. I use fixed beam version (Gelid F, I think?) as it has the highest DPS. With a bit of luck it can kill an Eagle on one capacitor and strips shields off everything in a matter of seconds.

I'm running with Taipans.....1 Gelid F for twin beams and one Rogue F with the plasma.

I tend to send them at big ships to pull their nose (and hence the big guns) off me before I open fire....so I tend to get a couple of seconds free fire before they can get their big guns back on target. It's a maneuver known as operation pawn sacrifice.

Doesn't have to be a sacrifice, too. I don't have the experience with Taipans, but iFighter with a dangerous or higher pilot can evade fire pretty successfully. Except the Rail Asps. Those are annoying as hell.

Try them All! With combat in ED there isn't a best solution given so many variables combined with the experience of the player and so many different ships and loadouts that they can fly. Some will say go with a Taipan or Imperial versus a Condor but it is all about how they fly which often has nothing to do with how you fly. With enough experience trying them all you will be posting replies to others for the best fighters...But then that is how you fly versus them.

So far I prefer Taipans for my crew. They are tough to survive several hits, you can have low-exp crew on them and they would still work. iFighter is cool, but then "shields down, hull low, figher destroyed", all in one instant. Taipan can survive several missiles and still dock for repairs.
But I haven't used Condors a lot in CZs, so can't be sure about them.

i got size 6 hanger on my vette both i fighters (gelid f ) 45 dps once my crew reached Dangerous i could safely leave either to take down an npc fer-de-lance on their own

Thanks for these so far

Currently got a Taipan and a condor as they were in the system at the time. Havent found an imp yet.

Was also hesitant about fighters as the cqc just seem to get destroyed so easily, but it seems those ships were made out of tissue paper.

So ship go for something that feels right, what about loadout?

Tried the plasma repeaters, wasn't too keen on them, do people find the ships to be too manoeuvrable for fixed weapons, i.e. keep overshooting? what about the utility slots, know and like the chaff launcher, but never used a heat sink launcher, any thoughts? (cant remember what the third utility is)
