Choose category before viewing the mission board

Hi there,

See thread title.

On a more serious note, I guess that Dom is a clever guy so he probably thought about it, but I would still be interested in the reasons against it. With the addition of Wing missions there will be even more potentially undesired missions for players which will possibly lead to more mode switching. AFAIK the no. 1 reason against more available missions is server load and transfer times. Wouldn't it make sense to allow us to pick categories? Maybe for wing missions and non wing missions? Or even categories for trade missions and combat missions etc.?
That should reduce server load while still allowing us to see more relevant missions.

Makes sense in a practical sense too, I mean imagine rocking up to a station in a combat ship only to be mobbed by people trying to give you cargo to carry, it makes literally no sense, even getting those missions from the same person makes no sense.

I think mission boards should be seperate, combat lounge for combat missions, trade hub for goods + salvage missions, passenger lounge for passengers, smuggling/piracy/illegal missions via the blackmarket.

Yes, I think this would be ideal.

Umm... you guys DO know that there's already a filter dropdown at the top of the faction list on the left hand side, don't you? :S

And you do know that the filter doesn't change the amount if missions that gets transferred with the mission list?! ;)

Would be nice to select a destination too, where relevant. Save generating a bunch of missions I don't want.

This! I dream about a filter that would sort missions after destinations across all available factions for ... ages. This would make hauling / delivery mission running so much more effective.

If we are going this route:

a) add filters somewhere in preferences for player to choose
b) add quick combo filters on boards to change it on fly

Would be nice QoL.

This does not include generating more specific missions for you.

This I support a lot, ++++++1. Throw in with regular filters.

Also I would like to point - missions are already generated, they aren't exactly generated for player when he/she opens board.

Its the reason why I would like to see certain missions in certain places.

Smuggling goods/passanger missions - Black Market Contact - Some maybe faction spedific, like weapons during a time of war etc - These would lower the influence of the opposed faction

Bounty Hunting missions - Authority Contact - have a good amount available - the tough ones being wing missions and highly paid - These would lower the influence of the target faction

Assasination Missions - New Dodgy geezer Contact (what faction would advertise assasinations on their public mission boards) - but highly paid due to the danger - These would lower the influence of the target faction

Stealing goods/people missions - New Fence Contact - Not faction specific

Then leave all the other missions for the factions mission board.

This way you will have natural filters without it looking artificial.

This should also work well once we have space legs. Get a smuggling mission from some shady contact in a bar. Get a hunt pirates mission from the guy sitting in the authorities office. Etc.

+1. Makes a lot of sense.

I said it many time, an improved mission generation system would remove the need for the mode switching crutch.

Makes no sense that people propose assassination missions to me while I fly a passenger transport ship. And vice versa in a combat ship.

There is already a filter (top left side of the mission board) which lets players filter out missions they don't want (e.g. illegal missions). Haven't used it much, so don't know whether this means the filtered missions are not downloaded, or just not shown.

AFAIK it doesn't change the amount or type of missions being downloaded.

I agree.
When I am in my bulk trader and purely interested in hauling missions, the server won't have to bother showing me combat missions or passenger missions at all.
Wouldn't that make things easier and lighten the server load?

I also feel that in legal stations missions concerning piracy, smuggling and assassinations should not be on the general board at all.
Perhaps the black market could offer a separate 'black' mission board.

I would also prefer a military contact for military missions.

In the future when we can walk around stations I would prefer that we have to personally go to some shady figure in a dark corner of the station to get illegal missions of all sorts. We need good practical reasons to go into a station anyway. This could be one of them.
