I think I'd like to start off on Earth of the 34th century. Just to see it fade into the distance as I supercruised away from it, possibly forever.
That's if we get rear view cameras, like in the original Elite![]()
Your actions determine your allegiance with the factions, you'll get a rating with each of them
Allegiance aside, I think you should at least be able to choose your general starting area. Say if I wanted to roleplay an imperial I would very much like to start somewhere in the empire and not having to spend weeks in the federation in order to get a ship good enough to be able to get there. This would also prevent a scenario where the federal parts of space would be overcrowded and the other parts almost empty save for the relatively few people that kickstarted as imperial assassin etc.

I guess everyone is different. Personally I love the idea of spending a long time working towards what I want to do. That wouldn't be joining the Empire either - slaver scum. I want to explore. But the last thing I want is to start on the edge of explored space with a ship capable of doing it. I want to trade or mine with the ambition of being an explorer. Maybe try it with a half decent setup then come back and earn enough to try again with top end equipment. The journey is the fun.
