Newcomer / Intro Choose the right FSD for Type 6 Transporter

Hi all.
i am a trader and I have lately purchased a Type6 Transporter in order to increase the cargo capacity.
The problem is that the new vessel is very slow and heavy during super cruise
I have read that it is possible to increase the speed by changing the FSD. I still have the default FSD.

As I have no idea what FSD to purchase I would need some help.
I am usually trading to close systems (1-3 jumps), so I don't need an FSD for many jumps.

Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as I know changing then FSD has no effect on the performance in supercruise, only the range of jumps.

Either way, a Type-6 takes a class 4 FSD, do not put a lesser class in. Buy according to your budget and needs, upgrading to a 4D will give you something like a couple of lightyears range and set you back just shy of 60k, a 4A will give you a huge range increase, but cost you 1.6 million.

As Feldspar mentioned, it is really easy to put in the wrong size Frameshift Drive if you aren't paying attention. Especially size 4 and larger as they aren't sold by every system. Sometimes you want to do that, as a class A power plant of the next smaller size can give you more power at a lighter weight than a class E or D of the higher size. Most of the time though, you don't want to do that. The reason to upgrade your FSD is so that you can make longer jumps between stars, not to go faster inside a system.

I think thrusters influence your supercruise speed, but the ship type has a much bigger effect. A Type 6 is a freighter and is just going to be really slow, no matter what you stuff into it.

You cannot increase your speed or acceleration in super-cruise. Improved thrusters will enable you to turn faster though.

Thank you all for your comments. As i do not need to make long jumps there is no need to buy a new FSD. I Amy then upgrade the thrusters as the ship is slow in turning too.

Some of the best upgrades are to just upgrade everything to D class. They are better than the base E class, and lighter which automatically gives you a longer jump range. Just make sure you get the right size. If you put a size 3 frameshift drive or thrusters in a ship than can fit a size 4, then you'll get really poor performance.
