Chose a side in Conflict Zone

I entered my first Conflict Zone today. When I exited frameshift all the Feds were in red and the others yellow. So I started shooting the Feds. I killed two but did not get any money.I have now read that you need to select a side. How do you do that?Many thanks for any help

You can select your faction from the right hand menu in your cockpit. I think it's on the same tab as the landing gear but I can't honestly remember! It's certainly on one of the right hand menu tabs. You click on it and it offers the choice of whose side you want to be on.

Thanks for the info.
So will this effect my relation with a faction, or is the conflict zone a sperate thing?
I.e. if im friendly with the imperials and enter a conflict zone and chose the side of the feeds will it count against me in the rest of the game?

it will probably affect your rep with the 'enemy' side bit but it is considered legal warfare rather than criminality and will not give you bounties or wanted levels ( if you choose a side ).
