Christmas disappointment "Community Goal communication/quest structure"

Hi!

Does anybody have a good hint where to find a consistent / up-to-date list of upcoming and ongoing community goals?

I don´t really want to take the time to read through all of the Economic, Powerplay and Broken Starport reports to find the one news where there´s a quest/goal announced/hidden in the text.

Regarding this the launcher does a very bad job!
It still shows the "Deliver exploration data" (expired 10th of December).
And the Christmas present event didn´t even seem to show up. When I finally found the news from 22nd of December, it was the second entry after some other thing.
Badly advertised in my taste.
Result: In-game the mission didn´t seem to be available anymore, I had just enough time to make two transport trips to at least sell the stuff with some profit. Could have even drawn two friends into buying Elite with the incentive of getting a nice ship. Now reading about the 100 Mil Credits for the Top 5%, well that´s hard. :(

Another learned-this-the-hard-way-thing about community goals: accept the mission FIRST and sell the commoditiy AFTER!
(selling first and then accepting the mission works too but doesn´t count towards the goal).
I assume the mission is always to be found at the destination station?

I picked up playing again with Horizons after a long break. I´ll keep playing for the moment but this thing leaves a bad aftertaste.

We need full automation of the community goal strucutre, and local community goals so that the universe can continue to be shaped by players with less developer involvement except for big things.

Hi!
Thanks to the first two repliers for the direct link to the first page of the thread.
I only ever looked at the latest posts in that thread which makes it looks just like a growing collection of 530+ pages of goal comments, didn´t seem very useful.

I´d really liked to put my hands on those Christmas event CR, would have paid for my next ship. Well, next time.
I guess it´s a new style of gaming nowadays when the game itself doesn´t provide all the information necessary to enjoy it.

The community goals over Christmas were very, very disappointing. The release of Horizons and the Christmas holidays you would think FD would have planned an exciting combat event. Instead they were poorly chosen and utterly boring. I wonder how many new players were frustrated by the lazy, thoughtless design of the combat CG's?

Some of the trade runs were interesting and that was about it. All in all I think it was a poor first run for the new players, that have just bought the game.

You mean like the first two or three items on the first post on the first page detailing the current CG's 😀

Glad you found the answers you were looking for. I believe Galnet also has posts although it can be a little unclear at times and it's all developer managed so things like Christmas do get in the way a bit :p

I'd disagree (politely) and say it's possible to enjoy the game without going elsewhere to get information but engaging in the community does lead to an easier and more fun time.

To be honest it's more the old-school of gaming rather than a new style. Back in the day you got a 100 page manual with the game and then asked for the 1000 page strategy guide and game bible for Christmas!
Lack of information does put some people off but for those I'd argue this forum, youtube and a few player-made tools like the ED shipyard application make it all ok again and those who like to try it out and experiment themselves can jump right in and call for help later (as I did :p).
The other up-side of the game not holding your hand is that it feels a lot more mature and the community is tons better for it. I wouldn't be here if I didn't need some help and advice, now I'm pretty much hooked and posting 15 posts a day on average to do my best to help other people!

Anyway, welcome to the forums and feel free to keep asking questions. There is a newcomers section here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=75 Check the stickied posts, a good 90% of what people want to know can be found there :)

Thanks for the welcome words and the link.

Indeed you´re right about having to read a big manual back then and those strategy guides in magazines.
Since a while now I stopped bothering with any manual. Either the game is easy to figure out for an experienced gamer or there´s a tutorial.
Only FSX and now ED made me read the manual again as it´s just more complex than one might think in the beginning. (And I didn´t even start trying to understand the Powerplay mechanics %-) )

Regarding my point how the information flow works. For the Star Citizen designers it seems to be all about immersion. To me the immersion seems a bit broken if I have to read about quests and their goals outside of the game itself. World of Warcraft finally managed to have an in-game-calender for events so that one didn´t have to continuously read their website about announcements for the next event.
(ok, it can be called immersion-braking to use a trade net website which I very much enjoy ever since I found it. But that´s a tool I would have expected to be in the game anyways)

Nowadays it´s a lot about the community so Frontier is probably doing it like this on purpose.
But ... if I have to go to a user maintained forum to get a quick overview and readable version of open quests, I´m merely a click away from revealing all the details about it I might have otherwise still tried to find out on my own (if the next post doesn´t already spoils it).
I´d like to "stay in character" when I play a game or do things related to it. I´ll keep hoping that they´ll improve on this one day (at least I found a bug report regarding the old news entry in the launcher, it´s not just me who missed out on the Christmas events).

I had a positive experience regarding the mixture of "challenging game/no manual/good in-character community" with "The Long Dark". Maybe the same will happen here, we´ll see.
