Circumnavigating the galaxy

The seed of doubt is sown. I'm leaning towards returning and grinding for an exploration Anaconda. I love the idea of exploring in a Clipper but if I'm going to the fringes it would be a shame to waste so much time and not be able to explore it properly. I could go to Sag A in the Clipper, but then again I don't really want to go to Sag A. I'm about 20 hours away from an Anaconda anyway...

Didn't mean to discourage you, CMDR. But this is a _long_ project. It would make sense to be properly prepared for it. Good luck on your voyages, and stay safe!

I could do it without worries if I transversed the gaps in the spiral arms farther away from the rim, but then the whole circumnavigating thing loses a bit of meaning. I guess for a probably once in a lifetime thing I want the best. I will continue exploring around Barnard's Loop and then come back home on some unusual and hopefully not very explored vector, make the money for the Anaconda and about two weeks set out again...

I am a huge fan of the asp over the anaconda for most types of exploration missions. But for this particular one I feel the anaconda really is the best. Longer jump range means you cover distance faster. Class 7 scoop vs class 6 for an asp with the same fuel tank size means you fill up faster, further cutting down on time. You probably will not be doing a ton of scanning, so anaconda's maneuverability rating of 2 isn't very relevant.

The only disadvantage is anaconda's shorter range on 1 tank of gas (because of a higher class of FSD compared to the asp). But that should be ok if you are properly careful.

So my final decision is a compromise - I'll go down the Perseus arm for as far as it goes in a Clipper, then backtrack until I can cross and see how I feel about the whole Clipper thing. If I decide to call it in there, I'll either go to Sag A or go straight home. Use the eploration money towards an anaconda, do other things, and leave the circunmavigation for a fully fitted exploring 'conda. If I decide to continue....well....:)

Whatever you do, don't sell yourself short. You would be amazed what can be done even in a SIDEWINDER. My first circumnavigation attempt was in a sidewinder. It failed...but for altogether different reasons. If you check out CMDR Erimus's DISTANT SUNS blog and videos, on his way back from the far side of the galaxy he encountered a pilot on the far side of the core who was crossing the galaxy in a sidewinder. THAT PILOT was successful in his journey. It all depends on how much perseverance you are willing to put into the project. The galaxy is bloody HUGE!!! As such any such expedition is going to take TIME. First, make sure that your ship is fitted as well as you can. 2) LEARN HOW TO FUEL SCOOP WITHOUT KILLING YOURSELF!!! (that is what did in my first attempt, though I made it back to port alive...barely)
