Civ VI

Fun fact, the last time I played Civ 5 i did a scientific victory. I started playing elite right after that.

Talk about transition.

Love the Civilisation series but none of them have captured my imagination quite like Civ II. I'd sit reading that huge manual for hours on end.

Played pretty much all the games since but I burn out with them pretty quickly, as there's rarely a huge difference between iterations for me. I'll probably still pick this up!

I liked the CD-rom CIV 2 with the full motion video advisers. People don't put that kind of acting quality into games anymore.

Also, the Sean Bean voice over just makes me think he's going to start talking about "O2" at any second.

I was a big fan of CivIV. The late game got really ridiculous with all of the pollution but I thought it taught a great lesson on how power and progress of humans is countered by the destruction of the environment which ultimately stymies growth.

Also, Leonard Nimoy.

So, what's the concensus - or are you all still playing?

I just finished my first game of VI - was wiped out in the late renaissance when 3 nations ganged up on me :p

I like it - there is a slight shift to a more "cartoony" graphic style, but it sits well. All the Civ games have had a touch of humour, this is just another manifestation. Some nice new mechanics, all of which seems well considered and integrated. Much still to figure out, but I think I'll enjoy this for some time.

That said, both Civ 4 and 5 still live on my machine, and will stay. Each has its own strength, and all are worth playing.

I love this type of games. Galactic Civilizations 2 is still one of my all time favorites.

Already put in some hours on Civ6. It expands on the previous games without doing any disruptive changes.

The waiting time between turns is what's putting me off... I spend more time waiting for the next turn to begin, than actually doing something. Must try smaller maps, see if it improves. Also I have a feeling that the science/tech progresses way too fast for me to be able to actually make use of the constant new stuff.

I always play on Epic or Marathon, normal game speed has you research so fast that its often best to skip a generation or two in tech completeley. :p Lots of new stuff in Civ VI though, so far so good. :)

Will try that, the standard pace there's a constant influx of new stuff being discovered and there's barely any time to actually build the upgrades before tech is already 2 levels ahead.

My friends are officially BFE.

BEST FRIENDS EVER !

Anniversary gift, a little late, but better late than ever !

Yesterday I got Civ6.
Last time I played Civ franchise, it was Civ2 from 1996 and I loved it.

Long story short, started at 10pm "just to see the tutorial", ended up at 3am getting destroyed by barbarians, americans and italians. :D
Still getting used to it, a lot has changed and some things I don't understand, for example, why is some movement of some units limited, etc. (had 2 chariots, one of them could move across the hills, the other one couldn't).

One thing that annoys me to high heavens is that no matter how large the map I select, and how few opponents I pick, there's ALWAYS at least one other civilization starting very close to mine... Some breathing room at start would be nice.

have you tried to choose big maps, with just a few civs ?

I know in civ V you could choose HUGE maps meant for 18 civs, and only have 5 or 6 yours included.

I tried the huge map with only 6 opponents, yet after just a few turns another civ is already popping by...

edit:

Started again, huge map, only 6 opponents, just discovered Pottery and there are already Japan and India lurking by...

I guess that's just the way it is, the game always puts the opponents around your civ, regardless of empty space on the map.

Civ V Was pretty good. So as Civ VI seems good. But my favorite still civ IV, simply because i don't like the hexa board came vith Civ V. But i suspect i'm gonna spend endless hours and hours with this one too.

If anyone intrested in Civ Mod's i suggest to look around in Civfanatics forum and try out The fall from heaven II mod for Civ 4 if there is some serious fantasy coversion for civ than this one is!

I'm liking it. The movement penalties from entering an enemy zone of control reminds me of the original Civ. Now all I need is some top-hat wearing badasses to get in Gandhi's stupid face.
