Deadly, But very fluffy...
Firaxis have announced Civilization: Beyond Earth. Personally I was hoping for a new XCOM game, but a spiritual sequel to Alpha Centauri makes me happy too!

Cheers nice link, i loved Civ series and alpha centauri to, looks interesting on first look so will keep my eye on this, you got me looking at H1Z1 sandbox game which looks great to...you may have just cost me money! :D

Just when i started playing the original game again... I'm not quite sure if i'll like this version though, but i'll keep it on the radar.

Civilization V was a disappointment (more a strategy _game_ than a civilization simulator like the earlier entries in the series). We'll see how this turns out, but I'm not hoping very much.

Well its not Alpha Centauri II :( but I'm still very happy and excited to see this. :) [And whilst Civ V wasn't a patch on Civ 4, I still played it for several 100 hours, so I think I got my money's worth].

I could never get into the Civ games. I just couldn't get over the fact that a cadre(?) of bowmen guarding a city could sometimes defeat an attacking tank division! ;)

Fun games to watch on YouTube though.

Sounds interesting, though I too had prefered a true Alpha Centauri 2. Played SMAC like few other games. Perhaps the best of the series.

I always pretended the bowmen had adopted the knowledge to use Molotov cocktails. :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Here is the video from the PAX East panel where Firaxis unveiled the project. They talk a bit about the development and core gameplay elements.

I have to say I'm really anticipating this! Alpha Centauri was a great game and Firaxis is a capable studio. Yeah, Civ 5 wasn't universally loved (never played much of it personally, so I have no opinion) and XCOM had a funky strategic layer, but still... they seem like a good team. Even with inevitable flaws I think they can make something special with this.

Not sure if you mean it as such but this best review I've ever seen of the latest Sim City.
