Clan/Playergroup Tags

I have noticed that some people in the pc ver. have a clan/playergroup tag after their cmdr name and I was wondering if this feature will be available on the ps4 port?

No. Your PSN ID will be your commander name assuming it works the same way as Xbox.

PC doesn't have clan/group tags either, they've just added the group name when creating their commander. PC players are not restricted and can input anything as a name.

I've not seen an option so I guess they either payed for a new account or tried to get fdev to rename their account

Not in-game, no. You can join a Wing/Faction by, essentially, registering on a website/joining a Discord channel and such. But there is no in-game application procedure to join a group.

Thanks for the info TSV. While I know tertiary services like Facebook, Discord etc. are popular/effective ways to get connected, I'd rather not need more points of contact beyond PSN and the ED forums. As a new PS4 owner I'm not versed in its grouping and community features, but I'm hoping we can establish a player faction with a simple solution within PSN. Anyone know or have ideas?

You can register factions/groups/whatever you want to call them with Frontier but you don't have anyway of identifying yourselves visually. There are lots of threads about that. There's various different ways you can do it, via Inara, forums, Discord. Basically it's anything out of the game. If you get really big then you may get some kind of in game bonus (for example the Cannon megaship) and who knows what's in Frontier's 10 year plan.

My Founding Father's post originally mentioned a private group but as most of us 'Founding Fathers (and mothers!)' have said we will be playing in open so I'm not sure how practical that will be. However I am working on something to commemorate/celebrate those of us who've been here ready and waiting patiently for the PS4 release. In true Frontier style, all I can say is that I have nothing further to announce at this time.

You could use the playstation communities as i have.
I started an "open" community named, " Elite Dangerous - Australian New Zealand " to meet fellow CMDR's that play my timezone and area. There are a few already created for different regions just search " elite dangerous " in the community section of psn on your ps4

Then i have created a ED "wing" community in PRIVATE so once i start playing with CMDR's and we get along and have fun and a laugh etc i can invite them to the "wing" group.

You can start chat parties and create events within the community tabs as well.
Hopefully thats what your after

o7 CMDR's

 what you are not announcing any tom foolery or shenanagians, i disappointed :(

I don't know if this will happen in PS4 land, but in PC land, you can (or at least could) apply to have a private group become an in-game faction, with all the perquisites that apply. I didn't get involved that much, so don't know how good it is as a shared player experience.

Yes indeed you can, it's cross platform, so you can have members from all formats of the game
