Good to see your back Penthux! and i see the usual Fed tripe that you like to dish out follows along with you.... again! :p

Cant imagine what you mean about Imperial propaganda? just some harmless leaflet campaigns to show the virtuous way of good clean strong Empire living.

Where there is a heart or plea crying for help from the Federation abuses of its people, the Empire steps boldly in to show salvation and bring honor and pride back to those souls languishing in Federation misfortune. ;)

Hail the Emperor, Hail the Empire!

They may be tradeable, but that's where the similarity ends. They are still treated as citizens. And being an imperial subject confers a better quality of life than the impoverished majority in the federation. Capitalism is the boot that crushes.

You criticise Capitalism and yet you use a fiscal system to denegrade some of the people who live within your systems? You say that slaves are treated as well as citizens. No! They are treated as cattle. If slavery offers such a wonderful "quality of life" then why are you paying them money to enter into slavery? Why aren't they paying you money for the privilege of becoming slaves?

You are a child of the Empire indoctrinated into the belief that some people are better than others, and the belief that some people are so worthless they don't deserve the basic human freedoms afforded to everyone else in the civilised worlds.

When you say that "everybody has a chance" you are talking about the chance to stand on the heads of more and more people as you work your way up the social pyramid of the Empire's hierarchical structure. And what are the chances of that happening? You might notice that pyramids are wider at the bottom.

Even if you do manage to work your way up the pyramid, your reward is to dominate more and more people? Where's the pleasure in that? It's better to stand tall on your own two feet, shoulder to shoulder with your fellow human beings, working together to make the universe better for the whole of mankind.

Just like the Feds, your system fails to protect the weak and disadvantaged. Not everybody has the fortune to be born in to money or with a heavily armed ship waiting for them in space dock.

The Empire is built upon the sanctity of human life. No citizens are left in poverty; everybody has a chance. It all depends on what people do with their chance.

exactly its survival of the fittest, and the empire isn't fit to wipe the turds off their shoes, no they make them cook their food and do menial tasks. no I say send the worthless turds to their destruction. we don't need sanctity, we don't need to give everybody a chance. if your weak and disadvantaged you deserve to be treated like the scum you are. Empires always collapse no empire has ever lasted more than 500 years in the history of the human race and your empire is no different. one day people will learn life is a dog eat dog place, there is no place for being soft. harshness and bitterness are the things that get everything done. if you can work your way out of this hard life then you have earned much more than the empire or the federation could ever give you. charity is for the weak, giving everybody a chance is weak. letting the weak die and the fittest survive is the way of nature and nature always triumphs in the end.....

Aye, nice to hear from you again Penthux.
Last time we met, I was Federal like you. I hated the idea of slavery, of subservience to a divine bloodline.
Then, I saw the Imperial worlds and Imperial culture. It works, my friend, it really works!
We know abuse of inferior members is wrong - in fact, it's just as debasing to perpetrator as it is to the victim. Such individuals are shunned in our society, the worst form of exclusion imaginable for any Imperial member. You can be prosecuted for it.
The Ancient Earth bound cultures, such as Greece and Rome, were pioneers of Democracy in addition to having slave economies. They were right to do so! They were on the ball. These entities survived and flourished, they helped Humanity get to where it is today. Their Human Rights record was appalling though, and it took thousands of years to address this issue. But it has been, by the Imperial Bloodline.
The freedom of space has allowed outstanding individuals to shine out of the bland background of eternity. Non more so than the current Emperor - we bask in His glow!
You live by the light of advertising holo-screens telling you what to buy, how to behave, what to want, who to vote for.
Wake up Penthux! Open your eyes and behold perfection.

That's like asking why don't employees pay employers to have the privilege of a job?

Of course my question was ironic. The people who sell themselves into slavery have no money. In fact they have no option other than this course of action.

But this is definitely something more than the honest contract of someone's labour. There's a value to a person's freedom, which would be impossible to ascertain from the amount paid to the desperate people who find themselves in this situation.

So the question I put to you is if you found out that you needed to pay an amount of money to prevent yourself being enslaved how much would you be willing to pay? I'm not concerned with the figure, but a sum will have popped into your head. You can now answer the question of why you'd pay such a large sum to stay free if such things are of so little consequence.

How misguided and misinformed you were, young Perseus. Unfortunate it is, to say the least. I shall inform my superiors of your decision.

Enjoy your chosen vocation as canon fodder. It won't be for long. ;)

Hail the Emperor, Hail the Empire!

I'm not 'back'. I'm simply active again after completing my latest assignment. Seeing as you're still alive, you can take it for granted that you were not my latest assignment. Lucky you, huh? Maybe next time, maybe another time.

KILL the Emperor, destroy the Empire. LONG LIVE THE FEDERATION!

This archaic practice of your empire endangers each and every person in the galaxy. Pirates can now target the lowliest of traders in the knowledge that even if their hold is empty, at least they'll have slaves to sell to the Empire.

The illegal enslavement of innocents is of course entirely against Imperial policy. One can only become a slave through official channels and documentation. Alas, there is of course a black market in this sort of thing, funnelling through illegitimate slaves with forged paperwork. But I entirely blame this on the Federation's short-sighted insistence on criminalising slavery! If slavery were legal in the Federation and Alliance worlds then it would be properly regulated and oversighted, and we would remove this black market slave trade entirely.

Similar indeed to your backwards views on narcotics, hand weapons, live animals and radioactive waste. It is purely the criminalisation of those who deal in these areas that leads to so much crime associated with them! If the Federation had more respect for its citizens instead of trying to brainwash them all then it could perhaps reach the peace and cultural heights of the distinguished Empire!

Now where did that dumb slave get to with my crack-pipe...?

Yep always on another assignment, what was it this time? helping to rig Federation elections by threatening workers rights or jobs.

Again you and the other Fed lackeys keep spouting on about Slaves in the Empire, but of course the Federations dismal human rights policy's dosnt effect you. As your one of the chosen Elitist, the lucky few, privileged with enforcing the RICH Corporatism standards over the downtrodden obedient masses.

Others such as Perseus have seen a better way and converted, they like me have been welcomed into the Empire, to add to its enlightenment, richness and fairness for all.
Felt ourselves made to feel part of something that matters, where everyone is looked after(including slaves)

Yes do look out for us, as we you my friend, there will be a time and a place for a reckoning.
Be good, and by that i mean you better be good with a ships engines, knowing how to get out of our way fast when you see the looming shadow of the great Imperial ships heading towards you! ;)

The demand for slaves in the Empire is the fuel which feed their illegal trade in the Federation. As for regulation, let's take two examples.

A ship is discovered carrying frozen slaves in the cargo hold by the Imperial Police. The slavers have documents forged on the back of a cigarette packet which state in crayon "Dees R slaves what wanna be slaves - its TROO!!!". The police frown a little. Wag their finger at them with maybe a 5 credit spot fine, and send them on their merry way with the slaves still in their hold.

The same ship discovered by a more freedom-loving authority within their jurisdiction. Well firstly the slaves are automatically freed. They are sent to a slave rehabilitation centre. The slavers are incarcerated. Maybe sent to share a holding cell with Gertie the Hammer. They might "fall down the stairs" a few times. Several times in fact. And that is no mean feat when you're talking about a Zero-G environment.

As a Federal Agent, I have to point out that Slavery will not be toolerated in the Free Federal Systems. We do not condone enforced labour even if the enforced entered into servitude willingly. In the Federation all Men are equal ... some are more equal than others I'll grant you. We do not allow people to be a number.

Nonsense, you open fire on the slavers and kill everyone in the ship, then call it justice.

Lovely Federal justice there. These are honest men engaging in regular trade, trying to make a living for his family. But your Federals just like to beat on people and infringe their rights so you can feel like you're the hero. Pathetic...

Slavery will not be toolerated

But if you don't toolerate them how can they get any work done? ;)

We don't maik any typos.

I am not a member of the Federation but I think I can piece together a plausible course of events here. Firstly, these slavers are not honest traders. If they were then they wouldn't be carrying this type of 'cargo' in Federation space.

Secondly I have met quite a few Federation Police Officers in my time. They were greedy and corrupt. They were not bloodthirsty. I find it very hard to believe that they would shoot on any traders without giving them advance notice and chance to surrender. Almost all Federation citizens are appalled by slavery, and it is doubtful whether there'd be any investigations into the apparent clumsiness of captured slavers.

Imperial slavers know of the 'clumsniess' they will encounter if they are taken into police custody. This will make them more likely to shoot first. After the first shot is fired, well, you know how things go after that.

Ahh... sounds like you may have visited Eta Cassiopeia sometime in the past then. I've heard stories and rumours dating from the 3250's when corruption was allegedly rife within the Eta Cassiopeia Police Department. No charges were ever made (that were recorded) but there were a few unexplained deaths and disappearances of key witnesses who were due to give evidence around that era. The ECPD back then were know for their tough, no nonsense hard-nosed, approach as a great number of those coppers were ex-Federal Military or those who missed out by a small margin on a military career. 'Shoot first and save yourself the trouble of asking any questions!' seemed to be their modus operandi.

Almost all Federal citizens will openly admit they abhor slavery but if truth be told those same people will privately disclose that having a slave to do all the chores they hate would be something of a godsend. Trust me on this one. ;)

The Federation is FAR from perfect. Even our leaders will tell you that. We do not hide behind a fabricated shroud of untainted morality while living in a paradisiacal nirvana. That's the attitude the Empire has, but it is not true of the Federation.

It may be unfair for me to tar all the Federation Police with the same brush. The Federation is vast, and circumstances can change between the decades of my visits.

I did once pass through Eta Cassiopeia where I was stopped for a spot check. I didn't think anything of it at the time. The police were polite enough. They had found an unusual liqueur in my drinks cabinet which was on their controlled substances list. I offered to make a donation to the Policeman's Ball, and asked if there was any way possible to expedite the paperwork. They were happy to accept quite a low amount and they gave me the usual spiel about how they were letting me off this time to keep on good terms with foreign merchants.

Thinking about it now, I should've spotted that the corruption was systemic when they offered me a receipt for my bribe.

Sometimes I forget that other people can think differently to how I feel. I wouldn't have a use for a slave. The bots in my cabin do everything I need, and I sometimes even feel guilty about letting them clean up a minor spill that I could easily see to myself.

Of course there are other people out there who think differently to me. Why else would slave traders be venturing into Federation Space? They're not taking their slaves on a joyride.

Hmm , troubling words Mr Penthux. It appears that you've been hanging around these Imperials a bit too long. Perhaps you've started to go native?

Rest assured that your comments have been noted by the military intelligence agencies and your employer has been informed.

No right thinking Federal citizen would dream of owning a slave. Indeed there is no need for slaves when our advanced domestic robots can perform any of the duties of a slave. Admittedly some people are not so keen on robots, so wealthy individuals have the option of employing servants.

Note that I said servants NOT slaves. Servants are paid employees with the same employment rights as any other worker, Most important of all those rights is the right to resign at any time, something that a slave cannot do.
