Clarification on bounties?

So I have this idea for release to set up operation in one faction and do trade and bounty-hunting, and then go on raiding sweeps to a nearby faction and act as a pirate.

For example, let's say I set up in an Imperial system, and I trade with Imperials and I hunt pirates in their systems. But then I go over to Federation space and act as a pirate myself, to sabotage their trade routes.

But I'm beginning to be increasingly unsure how bounties work. As I understand, even if I break the law in the Federation jurisdiction, I can still go back to Imperial jurisdiction and dock with space stations and even pay off my Federation bounty without risk. The thing I don't understand is, will players see me having a bounty in Imperial space? Because that would make my Imperial friends want to shoot me down, just to get my bounty, but then they are actually helping the Federation which I have been fighting... It wouldn't make sense at all, but then... I don't know. It seems very tricky.

EDIT: I think I would expect it to work like this; just like in conflict zones, I can choose my allegiance, and if I choose my allegiance I can see if players have a bounty in my faction regardless of where I go. Then Imperial players would leave me alone, because they wouldn't see me having a bounty. But it also means someone could declare for Federation, enter Imperial space, and collect the Federal bounty on my head, HOWEVER since I am clean in Imperial space, that player would simultaneously collect a bounty from Imperials for killing me. This is what I think makes most sense, but I don't think it is what is in the game and I don't know what is planned.

extra jurisdictional bounties can only be discovered with a Kill warrant scanner so it will be possible that bounty hunter will come after you. as long as the price on your head is small most human BH's wont bother, if you are not locally wanted doing so would get them a wanted status the first time they fired on you.

Oh, excellent, so then my original idea works. :)

Do you, by any chance, have a link to an official source on this? Just want to know if there are pages with more info I have missed out on...

the Design Discussion Archive is where you'll find all the info, it can take a bit of searching though as the start of the thread titles often has little to do with the subject discussed within.

FYI: the DDA is the archive of the DDF, a forum for higher level kickstarter backers to contribute to the design of the game.

That's how it works in the game now. Get yourself a Kill Warrant Scanner and play with it.

I have a question regarding bounties. What happens if a player has a bounty in several different jurisdictions and you use a kill warrant scanner on him ? In the contact screen there is only a space to display one bounty. Does it show a total, the highest one ? And when you kill the guy, do you get vouchers for all his bounties in the respective jurisdictions ?

its show the total and yes you get a voucher for every jurisdiction

In the final game, you could get a grab-bag of vouchers from all sorts of locations. You'd have to visit them ALL - without losing your ship - in order to collect!

Bounty hunters are going to cover an awful lot of ground just doing their accounting.

That's what I was thinking a few minutes ago. Just did a couple of hours of bounty hunting in LP 98-132, now I have to go to three of four different systems to collect. Damned independant jurisidictions :D

I quite like that. Gives me a reason to visit a system and do some opportunistic trading and missions as a break between hunting.

It's only the indies you have to visit individually, if they have a Federation bounty any Fed system will do for collection. I presume it'll be the same for Imperial ones when we get them.

It's still set for a fair bit of travelling round to pick them up though :)
