Newcomer / Intro Class 4 components for Coba mk III

Hi everyone, I'm new to ED after a break of several years and much has changed! I've had about 15 hours gameplay bought a Cobra mk iii and have upgraded it and have about 3m credits.

I'm trying to find class 4 components particularly a class 4 cargo rack but so far I haven't been able to find any. I've used EDDB but none of their stations suggestions I've tried has been able to offer anything above class 3. I've also tried high population industrial and high tech systems but still nothing.

It's got me to wondering if I have to be a particular rank or have earned a certain number of credits before I get offered class 4 stuff? Or have things changed and it's no longer possible to equip the Cobra with class 4??

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

IIRC, the Cobra has 3 class 4 component slots - I may be wrong. If that's the case, you should be able to find them quite easily - have you tried Ray Gateway in Diaguandri?

Thanks for the replies, I'm trying to swap out the class 3E cargo scoop that came with the ship. Both Coriolis and EDSY show this to be in a class 4 slot. I am also well outside the starting area. Is it possible that as of about a month ago the spec for the Cobra mk iii changed and it now no longer has class 4 slots?

Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place 🤔😕. Has anyonone bought anything class 4 for a Cobra in the last few days and could let me know where? Any help very much welcomed.

Ps I'll try Ray Gateway as soon as I get home

Nope - not changed.

It does not have a Class 3 internal slot anyway - 3 class 4 slots so you should be able to fit a 4E in place of the 3E cargo rack.

Here is a link using Diaguandri as reference showing availability, change that reference system to where you are, click "Find Stations" and go fetch:

Just arrived at Ray Gateway and no luck I'm only offered class 3 again. I have 2 of the three supposedly class 4 slots filled with class 3 equipment and one with a class 2 component. When equipping at a station there are 3 solid dots under the class 3 equipment and 2 solid dots and one hollow dot under the class 2e fuel scoop. Could it be that my cobra doesn't have class 4 slots?

I think I bought the ship before I left the initial 'safe' area and went out into the Galaxy. Do you think I should sell the entire ship at Ray Gateway and start again?

Sounds strange!

Can you post a screen shot of your optional slots then click on a class four slot and screenshot what outfitting is offering you?

Well........ This is sooooooo embarrassing.......... Particularly as I take pride in researching and solving problems before I ask anyone for help . The answer to my problem is very simple, the ship I have been proudly flying for the last 4 weeks isn't a Cobra mk iii its a Viper mk iii. Yes, when I moved up from the Sidewinder I bought the wrong ship!!! So now I have the right ship (Cobra) and all the class 4 stuff is there and available.

Thanks for all you help and sorry to waste your time. Also add 'are you sure you're flying the ship you think you are' to the list of questions to ask muppets like me.

I'm just off to hide behind the sofa and play Brawl Stars as a penance 😕😞😢😭

When I first started playing I rammed the landing ramp a hundred times before I figured out my bindings for the thrusters.

I was going to suggest in my earlier post that maybe it was a Viper III but since @Zorg Dogfang said that it came with a 3E cargo rack I didn't (the Viper III comes with a 2E).

So no harm, another of Elite's little lessons. (y)

Cobra III has size 4 and size 2 slots.
Cobra IV has size 4 and size 3 slots.
One of the major differences between the two ships.

It’s rare that someone comes back and admits their mistakes on threads like these...

Usually leaves us all wondering how the story ended...
