Probably another ridiculous idea, but I have been wondering why rail guns are cut off at class 2? currently rail guns are surpassed by plasma accelerators in almost every aspect bar accuracy. and due to the class 2 cut off they are almost counterproductive when used on larger vessels. so why not upgrade?
I wish to put forward a suggestion for class 4 rail guns, (class 3 would be nice. but still not necessary). Powerful weapons achieving less damage than PA's but with a much higher accuracy and velocity. rail guns as we know generate a significant amount of heat, and a class 4 would generate a stupidly high amount of it. this would force only a couple of shots at a time creating a neat aspect for game balancing. and as far as I know I think they do less dam compared with PA's.
Like PA's, rail guns can be modified with engineer upgrades to be made extremely effective. My class 4 PA with short range blaster and bleed damage can shred shields of a Deadly Python in 2 shots whilst doing 8% dam to hull in the process. A truly OP weapon with no counterpart. A RG with hyper-penetration special effect could be an adequate rival for the weapon. and this would slightly broaden the variety of weapons of choice between players and fighting style.
