Classes Of Gas Giants

While out exploring I kept seeing Class I, Class II, Class III, etc. gas giants. I assumed they were classed by size, but a little research shows me I was incorrect.

It's based on the Sudarsky Extrasolar Planet Classification (Click link for much more detail) which I'd never heard of it before. Posted as reference for other interested parties.

Class I: Ammonia Cloud

Class II: Water Cloud

Class III: Cloudless/Clarified

Class IV: Alkali Metal Cloud

Class V: Silicate Cloud

If the system is indeed based on the above classification I wonder if they purchased it from Mr Prichard as it seems to be his intellectual property unless of course he nicked it from FD in 2011. The site itself looks to be the lead up to some sort of scifi novel.

This may sound like I am pointing out the obvious but in the system map, clicking on the various gas giants gives a little blurb about them and explains the differences in the Cloud Make up etc etc to make it a Class I or II and so forth, which does seem to be as descipbed in the Albedo & Reflection Spectra of Extra Solar Giant Planets journel article.

Also be on the look out for Water and Helium Giants.

Hmmm, then maybe someone can officially tell us what a Class I, Class II means. I'll be a little more vigilant tonight when I ID new ones.

Here we go, from my personal collect of fine, aged, Gas Giants
