Engineers Classified Scan Databanks for Ram Tah - how I found them

I would have posted this as a reply to an old thread, but they are all closed. Maybe threads to recurring questions should be kept open.

Different people post different things about Classified Scan Databanks.

  • My first attempt was going to a famine system and scanning T9s at a distribution center. This was very slow and painful. I got CSDs once from a dozen attempts (mode switches).
  • Then I switched to convoy beacons in famine systems. There are far more transport vessels there, but I scanned about 200 ships and found zero CSDs and very little other data.
  • Today I tried a different system: A convoy beacon in a system with state famine, government anarchy and population > 400.000. On average I got CSDs once in each convoy and also far more drops of other data than in the second attempt. Got from 19 to 40 in less than 30 minutes (they drop in groups of 3).

Lessons learned:
  • Of course the game is broken in many ways.
  • But if you scan 200 ships and don't find any CSDs, you are looking in the wrong place.

You can try and finding mission where you wil be rewared with them. Or try to search Surface locations data beacons. A very good help with the second proposal is the windows-tool: EDPathfinder

https://github.com/neotron/EDPathFinder

There you can search for Data like CSD,MEF,CIF...etc.

YOu will get maps of the surface POI and also where these POI are.

Or you just remember to make a basic scan of ALL ships in your line when travelling in supercruise.
No need to invest extra time in it when you can get them during your usual tasks. Maybe considering the wide angle mod on your sensors?
I've taken a look and have 200/200 classified scan databanks

Not the fastest way, but it works. You're right.

BUUUUUT...Where's the grind, then? ;)
