Classified Scan Databanks

OK I decided to give Engineers another go and ran headlong into a brick wall............

At a convoy beacon now and getting no databanks at all.........I mean nothing and I have been here, scanning Type-9's to Sidewinders for the better part of an hour.

Any advice apart from 'Just keep logging and scanning'?

Sadly not, it's very streaky, you just have to keep scanning Type 9s (and smaller cousins) until they pop for you. I would suggest Solo when farming Convoy Breacons as it precludes you from joining an open instance, otherwise you just have to relog and relog and relog until it happens for you. The only good news is that while you need this mat to unlock Ram Tah, it's not actually used in any high grade recipes so you'll never have to look for it again. Because: awesome design.

edit: Always make sure you have space for the new data, that's caught me out more than once, there are no warnings or anything. Because: awesome design.

Type 9's help but there's other ships that alsoi prove them - its a random task. Also when you're in a port, if there are other ships, scan them also. Cutters and Clippers & type 6's can also provide what you need.

V2k.

Whereabouts are you?

I read somewhere that Jeffries Port in Ugrivirii (sp?) is THE place to go for scans.
I went and had a look there, ages ago, and it did seem like a lot of scan data was available just by hanging around Jeffries Port.

Beyond that, if you're scanning Convoys, bear in mind that you can either mode-switch or you can buzz around the system from one convoy to the next.
It's a while since I last needed SCDs but I seem to recall finding two convoy beacons about 0.1Ls apart and I could just hop back and forth between them, collecting stupid amounts of SCDs.

Also, don't forget to scan every ship that ever appears in front of you in-game, as you SC toward a destination.
Do that and you're more likely to end-up needing to delete excess quantities of scans rather than go looking for them.

I usually get plenty of these just from missions and surface scans but I guess if I had to go looking for them I would scan the jebus out of the pylon at Dav's hope.
Or go to a famine system, preferably one in low sec or anarchy and farm a distribution center, scan the numerous type nines then blow them to high hell for their mats.

Edit: Reset the instance, rinse and repeat

There's three of those Muppeteers that need 50x of some type of data. I seriously just cleared a slice of hard drive, went about my business and 6 weeks later, could stick my hand up the backside of two of them to make them dance, Ram Tah being one of them. Still only on 34 for The Sarge, is it? But I could care less about his Muppeteering. He just grimaces and shout "Hoohaa!" a lot. Doesn't do anything useful, like half of them.

Because: Awesome Game Design

Dav's Hope data point no longer works. It was nerfed last week.

Too much fun was being had.

Because: Awesome yadda yadda

The fastest way to get plenty of these is to go to a extraction site and just sit in Supercruise 10 to 50 ls away or whatever range you are comfortable with, lock on and scan every ship coming and going.
When it seems the ships aren't renewing or you simply scanned all the current ones, drop into regular space and then back to SC and repeat.
You will get so many scans done this way, I'd be surprised if you don't get enough within an hour....
This applies to many scan types that people seem to have a hard time getting....
Being a bounty hunter, I throw soooo many of these and others out several times a day....

I tend to just lurk outside larger stations. An hour (sometimes less) gives me enough to be going on with.

Edit: apologies, for some reason I thought we were talking about Datamined Wake Exceptions.

CSD's were a pain. Convoys in Outbreak systems worked fairly well for me. T9's mostly, but I've had them from other ships, including (oddly) a Cobra III.

This is for Ram Tah, right? You do not need to unlock this engineer AT ALL. He has no useful mods (for me at least, I can't actually remember what he has, exploration stuff? You don't really need to engineer explorers anyway) and does not gate any other engineers. I understand if you're doing it for completeness (he is my last engineer and I haven't unlocked him yet for this exact reason, I have 42 CSDs). When I get the full 50 by pure coincidence playing the game normally (could take a couple of months), I'll go and unlock him. I suggest you do the same (focus on an engineer that is useful or gives you access to another more useful one and unlock him in a few months when you got the databanks without looking for them.

He gives out Guardian missions.

He does yeah!

Also, you don't need to unlock him to get those, so... yup.

For instance, I've done (some of) the gaurdian mission (scanning all 100 brute force things was... just silly) and I don't have Ram Tah unlocked.
