Clean NPCs in wing with Wanted NPCs

I've gotten a bounty 3 times now for defending myself. If there is a clean ship in a wing of wanted ships, should I just avoid the wing?

A wing of 3 vultures, 2 wanted; 1 clean. All 3 vultures started attacking me after I opened fire on one of the wanted ones. After I killed the first 2 wanted Vultures, I started to attack the clean vulture which was shooting me the entire time since I first attacked. The first shot gave me a 400 cr bounty and all the NPC authority ships started to attack me; not the clean Vulture.

I've done this 3 times now where I defend myself against a 'clean' ship. Why should I become a wanted criminal over a ship that has been shooting me for 30+ seconds? I've encountered this 'bug' 3 times now since I've started playing earlier this year. This has been a persistent problem since the Wings update.

@drchek - So this is a bug? I thought it was when the Wings update first came out, but every encounter I've had with a 'clean' ship in a wing of wanted ships ends with the same 400cr bounty on my head.

The clean ship in the wanted wing will shoot me as much as it likes and it will never become wanted.
edit: Now I have to wait a week for this 400 cr bounty to be paid off. Lovely concept.

Thanks for the info. I have submitted a bug report. Now I need to find someone to claim my wanted bounty of 400 cr...

However if the OP also had a bounty on him, could the NPC not attack him clear of charges?
If you're already wanted i can see that scenario being plausible?

I've fallen for this. I shot down a wanted ship, then turned on his clean wing mate before he fired on me...just don't fire on the clean ship before he gets a wanted status on you first. If he never does, just leave.

Also beware of enemy systems where they can fire on you for free.

Do you have "report crimes against me" on? This sounds like you didn't.

I just fought several wings with only 1 wanted ship yesterday, and all other got wanted once they attacked me.

Yes I do have it on! I am hostile with the faction the wing was in.
edit: When I restarted my game, I found that I am no longer wanted!

200cr bounties turn into "on jump" bounties after 5 minutes, if you log out/in or jump to a new system they become 200cr legacy fines that you can pay off at the nearest station.

i've noticed the couple of times this happened to me that the enemy's faction was simply called 'pirate' and as you say, they got no wanted status for shooting me

---> fwiw i'm not pledged to any PP faction. this was during plain vanilla RES bounty hunting.
