Is there any way to clear your wanted level? I was so happy with my new weapon that I test fired it inside a no-fire zone =P

Pay your bounty off by contacting the Pilots' Federation in the Contacts section of the station menu.

I just hang around at a station entrance and let someone shoot me.

Nope.

My advice would be to go to a different station and try your luck there. If you get scanned when you try and dock, run for the hills! Punishment is a little over the top at the moment in that you get terminated for the most minor infractions.
