Clearing your name

Fellow Commanders, I'm not sure if anyone has tried what I'm about to describe, but there is a way to clear your name without waiting 7 days for your wanted status to cool off and be able to pay off your fines, for only the insurance cost of a Sidewinder.

Stop reading now if you already know this, but read on if you want to be able to clear your name quickly.

So you're wanted then? Not your fault, cut up by the local rozzers, rammed by an over-zealous traffic cop, all is lost, right? Wrong.

If you are already in SC heading for a suitable station where you would normally have docked to pay off your bounty, get yourself lined up for a straight in the door approach, and drop. Head in full blat, get docking clearance, and above all, DO NOT GET SCANNED BY THE TRAFFIC COPS. You will run the risk of infuriating the speed Wombles, but hey, what's another fine between frenemies? Get in station, get docked, and buy a basic sidey.

Now launch, get scanned, and hand yourself in for questioning (this always seems to involve being shot dead a little, how's that for modern policing?).

Once destroyed, and staring balefully at the insurance screen, pay your debt to society, and Hey Presto! No more "WANTED" status.

I just gave this a go at my local hunting ground having just "accidentally" rammed an NPC sidey to death in a RES out of boredom. Wham, 6000cr bounty, non-payable for 7 days.

Not any-more. I've still got my allied rep with the very faction that just killed me.

Anyone else tried this and can verify? If not, why not give it a go? What's the worst that can happen? :D

It worked like that during beta already.

Only one thing: your bounty has become a fine that you need to pay off in the system where you got your bounty. Not only that, but should you do something to incur another bounty before you pay off that fine, said fine will be added to your new bounty and the timer increased accordingly(up to 7 days max.)

Yep, understood. I incurred the bounty in a RES, boosted away, jumped to SC and headed back to base, which is where my bounty was held.

If the bounty is elsewhere, get a sidey and system jump, then go with the above.

I did not have the pleasure of Beta, so am only finding this kind of thing out now. I have seen quite a few threads complaining about the 7 day bounty timer and how it has "ruined the game", so I though I'd share my experience in the hope of cheering up a few unhappy pilots. Only requires a bit of piloting and a small financial sacrifice, but the benefits are manifold.

How immersive, this exploit.
I am sure that´s exactly what FDevs intended you to do.

Well it must be exactly that, otherwise it wouldn't have been coded this way. ;)

Seriously though, if willingly getting yourself "killed" isn't enough to be forgiven by the local cops, what is?

And anyway, immersion is dead, it's all about following the rules now, or else.

of course its meant to be that way, but be well aware if you have bounties in multiple systems, all bounties get converted to a permanent fine that must be paid off, what I do not know for sure is IF you have to pay that fine off at the systems you incurred the bounties in or at the insurance screen when you die all at once...

I only had one bounty on me from a RES NPC ram-kill, so unknown. I suspect you will have to pay of all of them off. Having not incurred anything other than the odd minor infraction before (apart from murdering a System Authority vessel who had interdicted me once, you know, just 'cos), I can't confirm.

Hopefully once people realise they can clear their names quickly and for very little cost, then there will not be any more threads started about how someone can't dock at their home station for a week, all is lost, game ruined etc.

With complex open play games there will always be loopholes and exploits that are not necessarily in the 'spirit' of the game. If using them improves your game experience (and not at anyone else's expense) then it's up to the individual.

I had a 'death by dangerous flying' problem this morning and considered the Sidewinder trick but decided against it and embraced the roleplay angle. But being honest if I have a similar incident when the 'roleplay' does not suit me it wouldn't bother me to have an accident in a stock sidewinder.

Umm...good thing I found this thread 'coz I was just about to post one myself. So, I'm wanted in AZ Cancri. I wasn't before but I was "hostile" to the system because of the new Powerplay FD implemented and the faction that I went with. Anyway, I didn't think NPC's would go after me being "hostile" as I thought that was more meant for players. Anyway, on the way back, to the port, I get interdicted. I figured, I'd blow the guy to smithereens. Which I did...except that the NPC that interdicted me was a Federal Agent and BAM! I'm now wanted with 6k credits in the AZ Cancri area. I figured OK, no problem. Line up the mail slot at 10k clicks, full thrusters, flight assist off, silent running and docked! PERFECT!! I go to the contacts list and low and behold...there is no where to pay my fine or clear my name. !? So yeah...now my fighter is stuck in bay. I got my T6 out but it it incurred some damages from trying to get out even in silent running. ARGH!

So yeah...how do I clear my name without waiting 5 days 13 hours and 42 minutes?

EDIT: One other thing, this is new to me. I've only started playing about 7 days ago.

Yeah, I was a little confused when this happened to me when 1.3 launched and I just completed an assassination mission. Such a shame that system won't be receiving my help again. I quickly moved on and completed another assassination mission - here's to moving on again tonight after work! :D

As per my original post, get docked, buy stock sidey, launch and shout "Come and get me boys!" once you exit the mail slot. Once dead and back at the insurance screen, you will find that you have to pay off your bounty (as well as the insurance for the sidey), or go for a stock sidey at a starter system.

Oh sorry sorry! I thought your original post was meant to ask clarification from other players if it works or not. I take it then that buying a stock sidey from another system where my T6 is at and flying to AZ Cancri to get my just desserts will do the same?

Yup FD doesn't mind you ramming and moving on. Clears up the problem for other players in the system you just left.

Just speed dock, then launch and die. Maybe even dying in a remote location will clear you name also? Go for it, nothing much to lose either way.

Wait What? You mean i now have to die for picking up a 400c fine to clear my name? or in this specific case, i got done for a) shooting at a wanted pirate whose 2 wingmen were shooting at me, and b) charged with Murder when he blew up, even though he was wanted? Is it just me or does something not appear to add up there?

If you shot at a ship with a local "WANTED" status, and you go fined, then this is a bug, and you should log it.

The purpose of this thread is to high-light how it is possible to avoid the 7-day wait to pay off a local bounty, in the event of accruing one by accident, such as "friendly" fire or accidental impacts in the no-fire zone around a station.

Well..Ive just picked up a 400cr fine in a res for shooting a npc who was red to me and firing at me who failed to hit me(so hes red basically and firing on me)So i returned fire(reacted)before a full scan and here i am, 7 days before i can pay it off.......Im like a lot of people on here i get maybe an hour sometimes two to play per day if im lucky, ive found a system im happy in that lets me fly virtual spaceships and let me bask in the memories of 1984. But now i cant cos the local fuzz who ive been helping for the last week or two now want to destroy my ship and me for the galactic equivalent credit wise of a happy meal!!

Needs fixing ED it SUCKS!!

Off to buy a sidey :(
