General / Off-Topic Click bait / ransomware scammers grr!

Yesterday, I went to visit my Grandmother, I'm proper glad that I did too!

As I wondered in through the door I could hear her on the phone talking to her bank about her computer saying that her bank card had been declined and she needed to pay £240 to get her computer unlocked. As I walked through I could then here someone of shall we say "call centre" descent (I'm trying not to be racist here, but most people will get what i mean) telling her to repeat what she is seeing on her computer screen. Looking at it, the little (insert expletive here) was, prompting her on what she was to say.

Of course, I pointed this out to her but initially she was having none of it. She was that pulled in by this scummy little (insert expletive here) that he had her convinced that she would lose everything that she had already given him her bank card details (luckily the visa fraud department had already blocked that one) and was still in the process of trying to get the bank to pay this scumbag directly.

Of course she listened, when I took the phone off her (much to her dismay) and hung it up. The little (expletive) then proceeded to phone the house another 12 times trying to get her back, from an Indian number.

Needless to say she was instructed to phone her bank and cancel her cards and look for any fraudulent transactions. She was lucky, there wasn't any. I'd only reset her PC a few weeks ago and apart from the basics that i put on there (she only knows how to get into Facebook, and apparently click bait) it was pretty empty.

Of course, what she did lose out on was 2 hours of her time (that's how long she was on the phone for) and had to have her bank cards cancelled, she won't get new ones until Monday. Her pride might be slightly bruised too, after the rather stern telling off she received from me.

Oh, and I have to reset a very old, very slow PC from 2010 to factory settings. Bloody socket 639 Athlon II X2 635. Luckily, i kept all her cat photos on a separate usb hard drive, that's all she was worried about keeping...
