R ver: Exiting Cruise Mode is not fun, expand the blue area for distance and speed by 3. Mission variety sucks, and some mission types just don't work. Where is the war? Police and Neutral parties need to stop jumping in front of my shots. Going on an indiscriminate murdering spree while running from cops is fun (Grand Theft SpaceShip?).
1. Cruise Mode
I like the mechanic, great way to explore and travel. The exiting cruise mode "mini game" was interesting maybe the first 4 times I did it, then it quickly became an annoying game mechanic. I have looked up every strategy: corkscrew to slow down, overshoot and loop back, 75%/10% baloney. Some work sometimes, but it really doesn't matter thou the minigame is annoying. Increasing the "bluezone" 3 times for speed and distance would make it a much more enjoyable experience I believe. Who cares about realism the current implementation is just not fun, and fun should trump "realistic" spaceships with lasers and sound in space. (note I have not complained about the lack of autopilot X thousand years in the future, I think I deserve a cookie for that.)
2. Mission Variety
I have currently only noticed 4 different types of missions:
- Kill X amount of X at X
- Take X to X
- Bring me X
- Go to X and find X, bring it back
This is all the variety there is? never mind the missions seem to have no sense to them. They seem to come up completely random and come up with generic or purposefully vague descriptions. How come there are no missions like in the training with wingman and waves of enemies. Hell those training missions have better preamble: "hehheh, lets go frame the empire for some evil stuff."
3. Mission bugs / failures
Why does a station advertise a mission looking for slaves when they sell slaves in the commodities? I guess I shouldn't complain, its a quick 20k for absolutely no work.
But my biggest complaint is with the Kill X missions. I took 3 of these for the same system, kill pirates, traders, and prisoners. I went to the system in question scanned a bunch of guys and didn't see any labels for anything I was looking for. So interdicted a type 7/8 or whatever, I figured that has got to be a trader. Killed him, no mission credit. Hmm maybe not. Interdicted a few more and nothing. I went to a nav point figuring it would be easier to find alot of guys at once. I started murdering everything indiscriminately and running when to many cops came. Checked my status 0 traders, 2 pirates, 0 prisoners. I must have murdered 10 people in that one run. I repeated this process over and over in interdiction, mining sites, nav points and I only completed the pirate one after killing everything I saw. 0 traders, 0 Prisoners. Needless to say 2 hours later I failed those 2 missions.
I got better results from these missions by taking the abandon path that some random person would give me, BTW killed that random quest giver 0 credit.
4. Where the fudge is the "war" at?
I saw trailers and such showing huge battles between to capital ships, have yet to actually find a place to join one of these. I went to Sanna and Sorbago, both mentioned in the galaxy news and "hot spots". I found some capital ships, but no actual fighting. I went to local and surrounding starbases and there were no special missions what so ever, same random junk missions. How do I fight for the glory of the empire if all they do is sit around, I have probably murdered more federation citizens then all of the empire NPC's combined.
5. Neutral parties and Police suck
I quickly learned not to hunt in any empire star systems, raking up bogus bounties because they ran into my laser fire is lame.
6. Interdiction bug?
I have noticed that no matter what I do when interdicting an NPC I always succeed. I understand its in my advantage, but it seems like I don't even have to try.
So with the experiences above I have come to conclusion that going to a federation system and killing everything, taking their stuff, and running from the cops is the most fun there is to be had in this game. I am hoping for more in the future thou, I can just play GTA thou which is better at that type of game. (exploration was a little fun too, eventually I wanna go to the other side of the universe.)
