I was under the impression that the client window shown on the desktop while playing doesn't have any impact on the performance of the game in VR?
I don't know if this is unique to me but the client window is having a significant impact on SteamVR frame time. I've just started using Virtual Desktop on my Quest2.
I loaded in to the menu hanger and at this point my frame time in Virtual Desktop was displaying around 7-8ms. I couldn't navigate the menus with my HOTAS so brought up the desktop in Virtual Desktop to check the client window was 'in focus'/selected, in order for my HOTAS to work in game.
I selected the client window from the taskbar as it was obscured completely by the Oculus app. (I have the client window set to 1280*720 in windowed mode) As soon as I selected it and it was 'brought to front', the SteamVR frame time graph practically doubled to around 15-18ms. (In Virtual Desktop the frame time was now displaying the same and spacewarp was constantly active)
I clicked on the Oculus app so it again completely obscured the client window and the SteamVR frame time dropped back to around 7-8ms. (?!)
I did this a couple of times to see if it was a one off or short term effect, and I used different windows to cover the client window. The effect was, and still is, the same.
In Virtual Desktop I moved the client window to my second monitor on its' own, had it selected/in focus, so my HOTAS would work, and switched back to the main monitor. SteamVR was showing 7-8ms and switching into VR at this point the game runs significantly better, no spacewarp in VD active.
I have no idea why this would be the case?! I have no idea if this is something that is happening to others?
It's a new PC, fresh install, i7-13700, RTX4070TI
Quest 2, Virtual Desktop.
