Cliipper build critque?

So I've taken to long range smuggling recently, using a 100t/34 ly unladen AspX, so I can save up for a 'Conda and Cutter (and maybe a Vette as well, eventually, cuz why not? XD). But I find myself wanting to try out something new, and I'm closing on the Navy rank that'd let me fly a Clipper, and since I've not flown an Imperial ship yet, I'm curious...plus I wanna fly around in something smexy ;P. I know the jump range is less, but the increased cargo over the AspX means I can make more profit per run, and I'm wondering if it'd be a good trade-in in the meantime while I continue working towards the 'Conda/Cutter (esp since I'll get 12 million off base price when I trade in the Asp). This is the build I'm planning https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...030243002f.Iw18aQ==.Aw18aQ==?bn=Cargo Clipper if I do get one.

Anyone mind critiquing it?

Wouldn't trade in the Asp, you'll miss the jump range too much. Wait till you can afford both. Also with the Clipper the real fun is speed so at the very least max out the thrusters and distributor.

Yeah, the jump range is something I'm very iffy on, but that vastly increased cargo space.....i'ts soooooooooooo tempting at slightly more than double what I have in the Asp >_<

Also if you can afford it a 4a fuel scoop would be better as that 4D will take aaaaaages. And consider shield boosters, and chaff will help if you're interested only in avoiding fights.

4A scoop would raise mass and thus lower FSD range even more though, wouldn't it though? And I have a 3D in my Asp right now and it doesn't take *that* long for a base 32T tank. >_> Also I get away fine in the asp with 3D shields and two PD hardpoints, so I don't think shield boosters/cell banks would be necessary.

Some good advice here already.

1) IMHO you cannot do without an AspX. Every time I traded it in to buy another ship I found that I then had to focus on generating another 25m Cr to buy it again! So if you can have the patience, wait until you can afford both.
2) I had my Clipper for ages and loved it. But only fully A rated. It is a joy to fly then
3) Clipper hardpoints. Out on the nacelles so you will find a totally different combat method is required over your "central cockpit focused" Asp Hardpoints. I had gimbals on both outers on my Clipper.
4) With increased cargo capacity you will be tempted to mission stack even more, thus increasing the likelihood of interdiction. I submit that any needless extra time fuel scooping is critical. Go for that A rated fuel scoop!
5) A rate the Thrusters and distributor for the speed, and then your PD type outfit on your Asp should suffice

Finally.....it doesn't land on anything other than large pads.....so you will miss out on outpost missions.....

Hmmk. I don't do combat so the weapon hard points aren't an issue. I'll take the advice on A rating the PD and thrusters, keep my Asp as a just in case. But honestly I'm just planning on doing this so I can stack more missions and work up to an Conda and/or Cutter quicker and cuz I'm getting bored of the Asp XD It IS a great ship but I'm feeling the need to stretch my wings a little since its been so long since I bought a new ship (was in a Python for a bit a while back but dear jesus that horrid jump range >_<) But I know about the outpost pad issue. Planetary bases still have large pads though, if I'm not mistaken, correct?

As always ED is about compromise, there is no 'ONE' solution ship for everything. The clipper is FAST and lovely to fly, fast and agile, but you will miss out on all the missions to Outpost's !

The Python is a beast to fly, but packs a punch, even if you don't do fighting pack all it's hardpoints with mines, it's slow, it turns about as fast as a Supertanker, but it can out hold a clipper in cargo capacity, has more module slots and it gets onto Outpost landing pads for all those high paying missions.

If you get a python a simple FSD and Thruster (Not even grade 4 or 5) upgrade turns the python into a better flyer.

The ASP, should be in everyone's hanger. Engineer Modded, it is the 'Workhorse' ship i always turn to Massive Jump, Brilliant Speed, OK cargo space, but don't try using the to medium slots for mines as when you fire from these the mines hit the tail fins of the ASP and detonate instantly. (Bug Reported to ED).

Your current layout of the clipper is a low cost layout that will hinder you to feel the fun of a Clipper owner.
Running the clipper today in a 40MCr range it does a pleasent job in trading for about 200t.

Keep in mind:
You can't replace shields (expect by MORE shields).
Times are turning. Alien ships have been found in the Pleades (and this is pretty near) and we have to many
commanders shooting anything that moves. It will cause somewhen a lot of trouble for us all. Hence: take
you weapons wherever you are to defend yourself.
You may be able to compensate jump range by Fuel Scooping. Taking a 4B will set you up to scoop 50% of a full jump
in one fly-by session at 'half speed' ahead. So additonal time in the bubble is minor.

Final words: Wait another week or two and then keep you ASPx and get a Clipper with enough back-end money to take a fit without
too much compromise. You can easily sink 60M in it.

And NEVER fly without insurance.

Miklos

get the clipper fit for best jump range, mostly D mods. Go stack some long range haulage mission, 200t worth of satacking is around 30-40m per run ^^
