When I exit the SRV because I just can't get over that hill, maybe it would be cooler if I could get a little farther on foot.

I have not looked at all of the suit stuff but perhaps an exoskeleton that might help me go a little further up a mountain than the SRV can go?

Although, it would be helpful if I could get materials on foot too. Can we?

I admit, I am just starting with the suit. I have not done anything with it but disembark here and there. I noticed I couldn't go further on foot than with the SRV.

Jump, then when you're in the air, hit it again.

So your suit has a jump assist function, essentially a jetpack. When in the air, press and hold the jump button to boost upwards, or tap A rapidly to "flutter" your boost to stay in the air longer at the cost of less vertical height.
The Artemis suit has a jetpack that has more energy, letting it boost longer, but be wary of gravity when boosting too high. You will take fall damage if you're too high. If you think you're about to take fall damage, immediately turn on your shields with the Shields button before landing and given you didn't fall from very high on a high G world, your shield should absorb the fall damage.
