Clipper and Cutter

I'd rather they just made a couple new medium sized ships for Gutamaya and Saud Kruger.

Glaring oversight

Why is the Imperial Clipper a big ship? It has more average characteristics.

Clipper has MLF 12, Python and Krait is 17 and are medium.

The Clipper is fast and maneuverable as hell... a large ship which feels like a small one. If it didn't have such horrible hardpoint placement, it would make for a good combat ship. In its current state it's pretty useless though... incredibly fun to fly, but useless :(

This.
Agreed.

And this.
Agreed.

This not.
I Disagree here.
The Clipper is a pointless waste of space once you have a Cutter. They are cannon fodder in any combat situation. At least the Cutter can be tanked (shield and hull) and still has decent weapons. A Cutter boosted into a Conda will bring it's shields down in a couple of hits!
The Clipper is just totally outclassed and is useless in comparison.

Ask Gutyamaya. That's how big they made them.

They are very different ships though and i'd use them for different things. Clipper is great for fast and manouverable flight and plenty of internals. Good for a wide range of activities from mining to couriering data and quite decent for combat where you want to control the engagement. Cutter is good to be used for... erm... blocking station slots? No idea, never wanted one. Takes a week to come to a stop.

You can't find a use for a Cutter? Really?
Trading and Laser Mining are excellent in a Cutter.

I have a Type 10 for mining. The Cutter is too clean to go mining in. And for trading i like my Clipper.

Smile. I have a T10 too. For dropping on high 10G planets! 😖 it's cargo space is less than the T9 though so not much good for much else for me.
The Clipper I've never seen a use for once you have a Cutter. I use a Trader and Miner Cutter regularly.

Someone is raising the dead, this thread is 6 months old. Why would anyone go with the clipper? The Python is is a far better choice, better to save up for the Cutter if you want to go Imperial.

Because the Clipper is a very fun ship to fly, the italian sportscar of the Elite shipyard, while the Python is a dull as a Toyota van. :) However, a Toyota van is far more useful than an italian sportscar. So it's a great thing we aren't stuck with flying just one ship all the time.

The clipper is fast and agile, which i prefer for trading.

There are several other niche scenarios for using a Clipper.

- The clipper is PERFECT for "retrieve black box / economic data / whatever" missions. Lots of cargo space, lots of module slots, it can be fitted to arrive at the black box / whatever retrieval USS, launch a bazillion collector limpets and vacuum clean the entire site, quickly proceeding to make itself scarce at full speed while any possible enemy NPCs are still throwing futile threats at you.

- It's also great for hitting signal sources for engineer materials.

- Great for farming pirates at RES sites (except against multiple targets in hazardous due to weak shields and large hitbox), as it has more than enough firepower to take down large targets, and more than enough turning rate and speed to take down small targets. It's speed also allows it to hop from target to target quickly and easily.

I now have all of the Empire ships in my fleet...
Cutter is fine - excellent Raider kit - I can fly that with pride 🥳
Courier is so 'whoooosh!' it can't be ignored...

Until raider kits come out for the Imp Eagle and Clipper, I regret they will have to remain in the dusty corners of my FC 🤷‍♂️

I use Clippers as my bread and butter for bounty farming. I can blow them up quicker than just about any other ship with my Vulture. What's really fun is when they have missiles on the outer hardpoints. If you roll while facing them, they'll roll too, but you can keep 90 deg apart and watch the missiles always pass above and below you, while you face tank it and blast with burst lasers at short range. They're too stupid to figure out that their missiles can't hit you, so it always makes me giggle.

I've been thinking about getting a clipper for exploration. Im tired of ugly asp and its boat handling

What exactly do I need to get it to 50ly jump? Is it enough to max the fsd

Why would anyone go with the clipper? The Python is is a far better choice, better to save up for the Cutter if you want to go Imperial.

Greetings Emperor I have just found another slave for you to send to the Gutamayan Shipyards. Please see above heresy and slander, high crimes to be sure.

Clipper is fun to fly
Cutter flies like blind cow

This is a quite accurate description ^^^. Sold my Cutter a while ago and never looked back. It was the only ship so far which didn't give me the slightest bit of pleasure while flying it. Even the 2 Lakon Big Cows provide a better feel.
