Clipper bounty hunter failed vs the Viper.

Another trick for those with gimballed weapons against those that use chaff, just do not target the other guy till he is out of chaff!

Personally I just use FAoff for turning quickly or against those in nimble ships to keep them in my view.

I had lots and lots of trouble controlling my ship with FAoff till getting some practice in just using it to turn quickly and now often use it to line up the station slot quickly while boosting.

Absolute PvP basics 101:

Chaff does not work vs turrets

Exactly why there aren't any gimbaled weapons on my Clipper.

Two large laser turrets, a railgun, and a seeker launcher.

FA off gets hate because a lot of pilots try to learn it and fail miserably so they blame the flight mode instead of practicing to get better.

You can and will make tighter maneuvers with fa off and proper secondary thruster controls than without it.

Flying with FA Off helps with fewer and fewer situations the better one's truster control gets. It's definitely got it's uses, but I find that many people underestimate what can be done with it on (almost everything) far more often than people criticize what can't be done with it off (essentially nothing).

I have eight analog axes mapped in my controls. I use them all.

No instrumentation that shows my trajectory vector vs my heading?

This is the biggest issue to my habitual use of FA Off, but there are plenty of people who have adapted well enough.

I have two gimbaled weapons on my FDL, I just stop firing them when I see chaff, and use the energy saved to step up my attacks with the other three.

Yah, I pretty much only turn FA off when I want to drift past a target (or a station letterbox) while keeping pointed at it; for anything else I use the lateral thrusters.

I'm particularly fond of slewing the ship around by yawing in one direction while thrusting sideways in the opposite direction under boost.

A key aspect to learning your ship is to understand when, and indeed if, using FA off is advantageous.
Exactly I do most of time just for fun, and is really handy when you are flying big ships like the Python or Clipper against the Vulture or Fdl likes.

I played I-War a lot. That flight system was great and realistic at the same time. Compared to that, the FAOFF here is a bad joke.
No instrumentation that shows my trajectory vector vs my heading? Or vs a reference grid or anything. I tried to use the particle system around the ship, but it doesnt seem to be helping a lot. It shows, I'm flying straight forward, when I'm, in fact, flying straight back.

The single speed shows only the product of the 3 vectors I move along.
So I need to kill my speed one axis at a time. Or hit FA-ON, because that thing knows the telemetry, just doesn't want to show it to me.

And lets not get started on the thrust in general. How come my non existing front thrusters can stop me as effectively as my big a** rear thrusters? How come I have capped speed in space? How come if I hit FAOFF, I still slow down? Air friction or what? FA-OFF is a joke and I think it is bugged a little, too.

If I want to play something with better physics, I fire up Kerbal Space Program and land on stuff without landing support. You know, on the thruster cone only.

I'm with you there with Iwar's inertial system, in this game it's poorly done. Even the shelton slide system I enjoyed using to take out cap ships in the wing commander games is better than FA off here. Every time I try FA off in this game, it's as if I'm fighting the controls even with small movements. Last game where I truly embraced inertial off was evochron mercenary where I pvp exclusively with ids off. Rolling is rarely used in this game either so there is no inertial counter thrust there. You have much better control of your movements because of heading indicators as you go ids off. Only gripe is speed control where counter thrusting is critical. Perhaps FA off in ED will get some fine tuning in a future update.

Should just head to Eravate and kill that guy and claim that incredible 35k bounty. I guess he'd last around a minute.

Quivira is getting kinda old. Eravate seems like a nice change of scenery.

35k is probably enough to cover the wear and tear I'll incur getting there.

I use flight assist off when fighting and flying from point A to B. I put flight assist back on when I fly into the station with my Python or the Clipper. And you could adjust your flight stick sensitivity, if you want to learn more type Look inverted in YouTube, and follow his tutorial, I learned from him.

Thank you for the tip Jesse30.

I have been trying to get my head around Flight Assist Off - on and off since Beta (see what I did there). Tightening turns is about my limit though. It all gets a bit random if I try something harder. Time for some practising I think.

Cheers

Keep trying man, the key is to practice a lot until you get it. Also a good way to practice is to navigate through the station outside. I usually do my daily routine before heading out and then provoke other players to bite the bait which that's why I have a bounty on my head. That is how you learn from your mistakes train how fight, even if you lose your ship which had happened against the Vulture or FDL pilots. oooh rah

Yeah bro Quivira was not all that, most of time I found myself fighting 3vs1, it was never an even fight. The good thing I was using a Clipper to do hit and run, until they blew up my ship and had to pay 1.5 million. I'm about to head to Leesti it seems like you don't get a bounty fighting outside the station. A good place for a fightclub.

With all due respect brother who told you is about the credits, I could make 700,000 in a round trip just trading, and I know that's nothing compare to the likes flying a T9. But since I'm in the U.S. military and have little ones running around I don't really have time to grind away like i have a second job. That is why I'm doing it and I hope you understand my play style.
