Ships Clipper for exploring

Looks good apart from the extra fuel tanks - take it from someone currently over 65,000 ly away in a Conda with reduced fuel capacity, they're really, really not necessary. Clipper won't have amazing range to begin with so I'd keep the unnecessary stuff off her. I would, however, bring a couple of SRV's - other than the fact that driving around can break apart the usual routine, which is welcome on a longer trip, you can also use said SRV's to collect additional materials to extend your jump range / refill your AFM's etc. Here's what I'd do instead on that build (I didn't touch the scoop as I'm assuming the 7C is there for financial reasons, but if you can afford a B or an A, go for it - you can sell it without taking a loss upon your return).
What is your point of view about people telling that Clipper is really fuel hungry? Most people have said that too small fuel tank was main reason why clipper was bad explorer before patch. Main reason I want to have fuel is that I have never explored. I really am afraid that I will stuck into dead start area and float there without fuel.

My anaconda has less than default fuel capacity (26y instead of the default 32), giving her 3.25 full jumps. Currently 65 kly away from Sol having successfully reached Beagle Point as a part of the DWE. Never had a problem, people hear about fields of unscoopables and start thinking that they'll run into areas with no scoopable stars for hundreds of ly. In reality the layer of unscoopables is very thin, easily avoided by going slightly up or down from the mid plane, and as such there's always something scoopable nearby. As long as you pay attention so that if you run into two unscoopables in a row you bring up your galmap and make sure the next one isn't, you're fine. Remember, fuel consumption drops exponentially with shorter jump distances, and most of your jumps won't be max range since star positions are what they are - so the amount of jumps you can do will rise a bit as well since you won't be doing 3 max jumps but, say, 5 80% ones.

Clipper's impediment isn't fuel capacity, it's range. If that doesn't bother you she's a fine explorer. Don't listen to mass fuel hysteria, it tends to come from less experienced explorers. Those that spent enough time out there know that in reality, fuel isn't as much of a problem as theory would sometimes suggest.

Thanks for advice. You have posted to all exploration topics and Clipper ones I am following. Really appreciate it.

Clipper is fine for me. I am not going to rush anywhere. I just want to enjoy beautiful view and beautiful ship. Conda would be great but amount of credits is too much for me. And I still think I will take extra fuel to my first trip. If I feel it is not useful, I can drop one fule tank off :)

I've done most of my exploration in a Clipper; essentially the same load out as timpelo's, pre-Horizons, though I think I may have gone with a size 3 shield generator. Post-Horizons, I did a lot of Barnacle hunting and nebula exploration in it, trading ~5ly of range to allow for 6A thrusters and such. The speed makes low-altitude terrain-masking pretty fun. I don't think I'd want to take that build out more than a few Kly, because a 20ly jump range is a little too tedious IMO, but at 24-26ly range, the only time I ever really minded was when I was 8500ly out and wanted to get back fast for an exploration CG.

I just got an Anaconda last night and look forward to trying it out, but I have a feeling I'll end up switching back to the Clipper eventually :p

I want to lift this thing up cos exploring with Clipper is thing I do. After 2.1 Clipper will be excelent explorer. You should get ~35ly jump range with FSD upgrades. I think that is more than enough and traveling with most stylish ship in the game can be now even more enjoyable.

A-yup, I got a pretty mediocre roll on a T5 mod for my Clipper, and it can already do 35 ly with it. Granted, that's with a rather bare explorer build. However, the Clipper can be fitted for a combat-explorer build rather nicely while still staying above 30 ly. That way, you can travel not just in style, but safety too.

I have hit 5-6 stations using EDDB info and can't find a 6A power distributor anywhere. Anyone have any leads?

EDIT: Nvm, finally. Just was getting very unlucky I guess.
