Clipper plus prismatic 7s

What do you guys think about this. Lately I've been res farming and undermining with my clipper. Looking at ed shipyard, I can get a class 7 prismatic on that sucker if I switch my gimballed beams for pulses, just barely. My SCB's are a bit underpowered as it is with a cl4 and cl3, so doing this will make it seem even more underwhelming when I use them. Also I have been flying with reinforced armor, so I'm also thinking of dropping it down to lightweight to help cut some of that weight. More shields, less armor.
What do you guys think of this idea?
Also want it to be decent enough for occasional pvp.

What about a class 6a Primatic shields? Does that help the power usage? A class 6A primatic shield should weight the same as a Class 7A and be just a touch more powerful. I want to experiment with this setup when I get access to the shields in 2 days.

Hmmm I use a D6 shield on my asp. Slightly weaker, uses less power, lighter and costs less than an A5. I can add more shield boosters then. :)

Exactly. The Prism Shield is supposed to be 120% the strength of the same class shield. That is the same as a Class A shield booster included.

So - A 7A shield generator makes 306MJ; A 6A Prism makes 315MJ (you have to be careful of the weight penalty of the lower class shields).

But on my clipper it looks like I can avoid a weight penalty and run the 6A prism shields, with an additional booster and have a lot more powerful shields. The question is if it is worth it as I am looking to save a bit of power doing this.

So currently I use 2 shield boosters, 1 chaff, 1 KWS. If I do 6A Prism plus a booster I'd have to lose the chaff. Is the extra weight going to be that much of a detriment?

Currently the best PvP combat clipper build I created and have used for a while is this:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=703,5TE5TP7OX7OX0_g0_g0_g0_g,329Y9Y7_889Y886k,7W07k47gy7gy4zM9rs7dq7dq

Cargo hatch, FSDI, fuel scoop on low priority but FSD is left at high priority for fast frame shifting after closing hardpoints. One 4 and one 2 SCB are used together, the 6 SCB is used by itself.

With prismatic shields the new best build will be this:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=703,5TE5TP7OX7OX0_g0_g01Q01Q,329Y9Y7_889Y8I6k,7Vs7k47gy7gy4zM9rs7dq7dq

The prismatic shield can't be shown so the differences are from what is shown:

+ 80 mass for a total of 950 tons with full fuel
+ 2.45 power used for a total of 31.88 deployed power usage
+ 86 Mj shield for a total of 514.04 Mj shield (with 2 A class boosters as shown)

The differences from the original build are this:

* + 15 tons of mass. Good.
* Besides the same priority settings, FSD must now be set to low. Quite bad, can't find an acceptable way to fit this unfortunately.
* Sensors downgraded from B to C. Meaningless, you used B class to increase mass, not for the increased sensor range and the mass loss is made up and then some in the shield.
* Shields lose 5 Mj of power. Meaningless.

AND the reason you go through all these changes...

* Able to fit in double chaff for PvP or an E class scanner or two in their place for PvE with basically the same amount of shield as the original build (which used FOUR A shield boosters instead of TWO).

Total mass determines who comes out ahead in rams. Speed of collision determines total ram damage distributed. That is why you want a high mass clipper for PvP. The prismatic shield makes you a bit heavier with the added defenses of double chaff and you keep almost the same amount of shield, the only real negative being no longer able to quick FSD after closing hard points.
