Clipper Trader Build

(Sorry, I meant Cutter and it won't let me change title)

I know cutter's have amazing shields, but for this build out I am trying to keep those big slots free for cargo. As I will be flying in Solo mode, I will only have to deal with interdictions and escaping. I have, previous to now, been trading in a type 10 heavy where I never get mass locked and just pause and get back into super cruise. For this one, I will be relying on 527 of speed to escape, with point defense, chaff and hull/module armor to keep me alive until I do so. Do you think it is better to do 2x 5d hull reinforcements + 1 4d module reinforcement, or one 5d hull + 5d module + 4d module? Am I actually OVER tanking this? If so how low can I go?

Any other suggestions for this trading only build?

I was gonna say don't use a Clipper to trade but it doesn't look as if you are anyway (might want to edit the thread title).

You won't have any issues against NPCs in that. The chaff probably won't make a huge difference because you're such a big target but, as you don't have shields (and, therefore, no need for shield boosters) then why not.

I'd like to see all those point defence turrets going off at once. It would be like a mad fireworks display.

Here is my nakid build. I fly in Open

I would choose hull reinforcements over module reinforcements. Most of the damage I collect is due to collisions. I dont see a point in all those point defences :D
You forgot ECM

NPCs are ridiculously easy to outrun in almost any ship (I think as long as your ship can do more than 350-400m/s you're safe), plus the Cutter beats most if not all in terms of mass lock so you could argue you don't need any defenses whatsoever as a single boost will get you out of their weapon range in a few seconds. On that note I'd probably switch out at least one of the size 5 slots and put another cargo rack in, or two (and get rid of the MRP).

It shouldn't really work imo, but it does.

I'm flying in Open so am running a 6A Prismo Trader with mostly shield boosters and a couple of PDTs and some HRP/MRP modules, but even against NPCs it comes in handy because I don't tend to run from pirates - great source of mats for starters.

In solo you can run a build with the full 794t of cargo and still take out a pirate Anaconda instead of just evading the interdiction (I have done this). Heavy duty military armour and a heavy duty hull reinforcement and module reinforcement (class 5 in the military slots) is all you need. Point defence is a must, but you have that covered.

The Cutter is also nimble enough in supercruise that you should be able to win every interdiction with a bit of practice.

1. that's not a clipper.
2. you don't need bulkheads in pve on a trading cutter, as with engineering no npc can keep up with you.
3. take 8D thrusters. fast enough, more jumprange.
4. fit a wake scanner to gather data while trading.

I wish FD would make a CG to get the class 5 shields that could be fitted to Cutter. It was possible to make such before the engineering was changed to set properties. I have 2 of those in couple of my Cutters and they give plenty of room and still giving me the comfort of shielding.
