Horizons Clipper

Does any one still fly the Clipper and why I use to fly it all the time but then it was changed it's no good in combat can not out run the smaller ships any more can not do lux passenger missions. Will only land on big platforms can not out turn any other ships. Still looks good and I still have one stopped flying it when the NPC were buffed er sorry bugged and killed it more than a few times. I even bought a lot of paint jobs for it but never fly it any more because it can not do any thing, apart from out run just the bigger ships. Even in the BETA heavily upgraded there is no point flying it has no military internals at all and for a very large ship only has four hard points and four utility slots, all the smaller ships I tested can now out run it with ease and kill it just as easily.

Any thoughts on what can be done to it to may it worth flying again.

i have used it very long as my primary mining vessel. pretty perfect for this job.

not sure, why your clipper can't outrun smaller ships anymore - my mining clipper is and was shieldless, and had no problems to outboost anything ---- maybe you have slapped to much heavy duty HRP/armour on it?

Have been testing it in BETA max speed with a very light load out no armor light class two guns class three shields is about 570 all the smaller ships can easily get past 600 now with a full combat load out, meaning if there are two smaller ships instead of being able to kill them they would easily take the clipper out. All the federal ships and almost all small fighter get internal military slots only the Imperial eagle and cutter get any improvements, meaning if you like flying a clipper you will need escorts or to be able out run any NPC combat ships. Sadly when the next update goes live that will no longer be a choice.

Edit never tried mining in a clipper in fact never tried mining got really bored just escorting some miners so had flight assist off just bosting through the asteroids for fun.

Well just tested the Viper MKIII as a full combat load out it tops 468-470 but mine was very heavy b class life support class 3a shields 3d armor in a cargo slot 3d armor inside and 3darmor for mods kill scanner shield booster can not jump more than 15 LY but it kills all the small ships just like a tank. two NPC or player vipers would kill a clipper easy because they out turn it and two would out gun a clipper by the time you kill one the other would be killing you.

... means all ships that can equip class 2 or 3 enhanced performance thrusters: hauler, sidey, iEagle, eagle and courier .... and in beta viper mkIII (because weight reduction).

So for me my Clipper will just sit in the shipyard.

I can see a couple properly outfitted Couriers giving a Clipper a go, even one if the pilot is good at PvP, but the others tend to fall off on those top speeds if you start adding combat gear pretty quickly.

Other than the Courier, I don't see much of an issue. At 570M/S the Clipper can still be pretty well armed and should be able to swat the gnats pretty easily if you put at least one fixed beam on there to counter chaff.

Admittedly, I'm not a PvP specialist and haven't done much in the current beta.

I had a Clipper for a while but the large landing pad it required made it useless for trading at outposts. I upgraded to a Python which has more cargo space and still docks on a medium pad which makes it an ideal high capacity trading ship for outposts. Also, the Python is a lot better in combat than a Clipper IMO, not so fast or manoeuvrable but it doesn't really need to be since it's more of a tank while the Clipper is really an APC.

I think it's the landing pad size that lost the clipper most of it's appeal, it's a beautiful looking ship but for the cargo capacity it has, a large landing pad is a bit OTT.

I've been flying a clipper for the majority of my playtime and I love it. I use it for RES, CZ, and missions, a combat-based multi-role type ship. Sure the shields are worse then the Courier and it's so big that literally everyone and their grandmum can hit it but it makes up for that with it's large power reactor and great power management. I can fire beam lasers almost non-stop with 4 pips into guns.

Main thing to remember though that it isn't really a solo ship. Like you get a few people hitting you and your shields will drop super quick. I use it as supper, fly in, melt target with beams and MCs while they focus on ally/friend then fly away with it's super high speed and agility.

And speaking of agility, it handles more like a small ship rather then a large one once you get it's thrusters upgraded, easily being able to track an Eagle flying circles around you.

It's my tourist mission runner currently. I dont think I've ever been scanned in it since I got it. It can enter stations in the blue zone and it's above 200 m/s. Excellent for planetary landings, gathering matts, etc. Cause it's got a nice pitch rate in SC. But yes, in combat it kind of sucks. :(

Oh, I forgot to post my build

I love my Clipper as my day-to-day all-arounder. Since the latest patch though I've had to park it in favor of a python in order to keep up the rank grind and take advantage of all of the high payout hauler missions to outposts. The Large size designation has always bothered me, but since the patch it's been a downright crime by forcing it to the dock.

Frontier, please downsize the Clipper to medium.
