Clippers need VIP passenger cabins (opinion)

"The Imperial Clipper is the quintessential Imperial ship. It epitomises elegance of form while delivering speed and agility. Because of its balance of Speed, Luxury and strength it is used for transporting valuable items and personnel of importance across the Empire."

OK, so I think the decision not to let the Clipper equip a Luxury VIP passenger (singular) cabin is a bad design decision, as it goes totally against the Lore. Also, it goes totally against how VIPs operate.

If you're a high ranking Politician, a Media personality, a business tycoon, and you want to go somewhere, do you:

a) fly there on a Beluga with hundreds of scruffy commoners? Even if you get a nice cabin?
b) Get a personal, chauffeur driven space-limousine to take you there in privacy and comfort?

Look at any 21st century Diva. They get their own private jet for themselves and a handful of their entourage. They generally don't travel on Ryan Air with crowds of people. It's a security risk, for one thing.

The Clipper was designed for, and is used for "carrying personnel of importance" in luxury, so it needs a VIP cabin to fulfill it's basic purpose! It's like having a Beluga without mass-passenger cabins. Or a Dropship without army crew cabins (wait, bet the dropship can't carry troops either, can it?)

Please FDev, rethink this design decision in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I'll get my Chauffeur cap out of storage :D

Could not agree more, but just like instant ship deliveries, seems they have an influential idiot among the decision makers at FD.

Maybe the clipper should be allowed a luxury cabin, but only in one of the smaller module slots. Same with the Courier. So these ships would never compete with the dedicated luxury passenger ships, but could still take missions for one or two VIPs.

agreed. from what I saw on the streams, you only carry one or two VIPs at a time anyway. So it only needs a small slot for one or two VIPs (any more than that defeats the purpose of it being a space-limousine. You can use an Orca if you're planning on groups. And Beluga if you've got crowds).

Yeap. Empire ships having the luxury cabin option would cement their role and distinguish them from their federation counterparts.

Now, now, no need to contaminate this thread with that hot-button debate. No need to take a jab at Fdev, either.

The notion of VIP transport does sound much like charter flights. Something the clipper and cutter are both supposed to be able to do, actually. Cutter is referenced as used "via diplomatic missions and support for friendly powers". So surely some VIPs might be diplomats?

If you are going to represent a government and are a VIP and must get to an important political engagement, are you going to step into someone's cab (Orca is a nice cab, though) or hop into a Clipper or indeed Cutter? :)

Given ship transport is coming, the notion ships have particular roles has more or less been deep-sixed as the only thing that needs compromises for distant travel is, ironically, a taxi. lol.

This seems like a good idea, gotta make sure the Clipper doesn't step on the Orca's toes. Fluff it that only one of the smaller module bays is wired/plumbed appropriately for a VIP cabin.

James Bond would arrive in an iCourier on an urgent mission from the queen herself.

They will be able to fit first class cabins
There are VIPs that will travel in first class cabins

Sounds like it still fits the bill or the in game description for the Gutamaya ships still being used as VIP transport

The best looking ship in the game for passengers. strange eh?

.. have you looked at an oil tanker, then the Queen Mary II as a comparison? Genuine question.

I'm just asking because it would be a bit weird if the oil tanker had opulence and passenger comfort as its major draw card, and the Queen Mary had, well, cargo space for a few hundred slaves?

C) Book the Entire Beluga for myself and my entourage
lol well, yes, there is that. But who'd going to spend a billion on a Beluga and just put one VIP cabin in it? (it was a rhetoric question, don't all say "MEEEE" at once lmao)

Oh I intend to roll around in a Beluga for myself because that's the eccentric billionaire I am. It don't mean a thing if it don't have that bling.

But I'm not sure VIPs will want to roll around in my crib, getting all up in each other's grill, when they probably actually just want to go where they are asking, maybe via the nearest pub? :)

Oh you know this is going to happen. It's the ride I've been waiting for. :)

This is such an obvious and sensible idea I can't comprehend why it's not a thing.

Wake up, FD.

Only Luxury Suites are restricted to Passenger Liners

All other ships can fit Economy and first Class Cabins if they have the required Internals

VIPs are not restricted to Luxury Suites, different VIPs and Bulk Passengers have a minimum Cabin level requirement.

Not having a Luxury Suite will not preclude being able to carry VIPs.

So where in all that is the Courier Clipper, and Cutter unable to carry VIPs as per their in game descriptions?

Is there a confirmed list of vip capable ships?
Sandro in the stream said just the Orca and Beluga as they are the only luxury passenger ships in the game. Which I'm totally fine with in general (I love anything made by Gutamaya), except in the Clipper's instance where it makes no sense at all. And it's not like fitting a VIP cabin in a Clipper is a lot of programming work, you just need to set a flag on one of the bays so it can take a VIP cabin (i'd have thought)
