Cloacking Bulkheads

Cloacking bulkheads is a bit less strong than reinforced bulkheads and a bit less expensive than military one.

Cloacking bulkheads are equiped on all it's surface with the last pixel/camera technology that reflect what is behind it in all direction.
If you use silent running and use this bulkhead you will be almost invisible. Indeed as there is a slight delay in processing the information and displaying it a slight changing in the star sky can be seen.
Skilled pilot can still target you and killed you.

But in most case it can be used as the defensive protection and for smuggling.

Being able to turn off the exterior lights; would be a good start?
We already have technology capable of changing the color of a car at will thanks to electronic ink.

With micro camera and electronic ink it is theorically possible to make a surface reflect what is behind it. And we 3D technology you can simply spread all images in all direction.

So it's just a matter of time we have some kind of cloacking device for anything. Of course it won't be completly invisible but if for example a boat or a plane was equiped with it, you wouldn't be able to see it from long distance.
Obviously closer you could notice something as the technology to recreate real colors and light is not as accurate as the real...

But it's defenetly not something from science fiction... From long distance it can make looks you invisible.

No we don't, those are video editing effects. We have shiny paint. Or thermal-sensitive paint. Probably that light-up paint is real.

The issue with projecting what's behind you to create a transparency illusion is that what's behind changes based on the viewing angle. You're also forgetting that our ships' targeting is based on heat, not light, so just because they can't see you, doesn't mean they can't shoot you.

As for in game, pretty sure we had an silent running meta, and I'm glad I was never a part of it. While I like the idea of piloting an invisible ship, I absolutely hate the idea of ever having to engage one.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Fit a DBX with combat gear, no shield, a TON of bulkheads and such, heatsinks, and whatever else. Use silent running a lot, pop heat sinks. You should be nearly impossible to target, sinks should chuck off most locks, etc. Between that and chaff, shouldn't that make you almost impossible to target/hit? And if you engineer those bulkheads...

The silent running meta still exists, it's just not as overpowered as it used to be. Still a viable build in the right hands.

Z...

I never said silent running doesn't work, I said altering your optical signature wouldn't influence targeting. Your DBX proposal is a very well known silent running build, of course it's possible.

Seems to me that you are looking for a way to get around buying a dark skin in the store. The tactical grey/graphite skin would be an equivalent effect.

What I had rather see in the game is a module that is similar to a shield generator that increases the silent running effect.

My thought would be 2% per grade, meaning that a Class E is 2% and a class A is 10%. This "coolant" effect would only work if the ship is in Silent Running mode, and would automatically turn off when Silent Running disengages. As a result, having one installed would be part of the Silent Running key bind.

There would be a minimum size requirement based on the given ship, but you wouldn't get anything better for buying larger than required.

For some reason I read the thread title wrong - I was expecting to see a load of toilet-humour jokes.

cloaca bulkheads - eugh!

Only if you can turn off the exterior running lights; other wise, the Imp ships just look like black xmass trees.

Dark skins, turning external light off... Interesting guys !

At least if we could have camouflage within the game !

Very interesting !
