Close calls have you had any?

Ok so this nearly happened...

accidentally leaving your throttle up when heading towards a sun... make that two suns! not advised hehe all I wanted was a nice screenshot, thanks to shadowplay for being able to catch a video though!

This made me think what close calls have you had in your ship? be it combat trade or explore accident or malicious intent?

Took off in my clipper around an hour ago to find my up thrust was stuck on so I was smashing into the other side of the dock having a    ! moment. I got it under control at 90% hull and a fine or two so it could have been worse.
.
Night before last, I was approaching the cage in the same clipper when my nephew passed me a mug of tea. Lets just say I should have asked him to put it down instead of taking it from him. Can't remember the damage but I think I was down to <50% before I un-tangled myself. I was probably very close to the station taking exception to my navigation skills too.
.
Really, even that popular acronym gets the swear filter! Oh well, insert an expletive of your choice at the gap. :)

Oh god haha,

I do hate those cages they can be a killer to get out of, in fact your nephew bringing you a tea reminded me of the time I knocked over a cup of tea all over the table whilst in the middle of a combat zone, screaming to my girlfriend to help while I jumped out haha god damn real life getting in the way of my (oh my god he is going to say it!) IMMERSION!!!! :p

P.S I have now been demoted to sippy cup!

Way back when, when I was a very new I'd just bought my brand Asp, I realised I'd done my sums wrong and didn't have enough to fully cover my insurance.

One trading trip would cover that though so I though I'd risk it rather than sell back and lose the 10%. The first (and last) time I flew without insurance.

All was uneventful until I came to dock at the destination station. I just clipped the side of the docking slot, going fairly slowly and just a slight scape.

It instantly took out my shields and left me with 11% hull.

I saw my hours of progression up to that point flash before my eyes! I very, very, very carefully manoeuvred to my docking slot.

I still don't really know how such a small knock did so much damage.

Worst thing was that after paying for the repairs, the profit for the trading trip was reduced so far I still didn't have enough for insurance :(

I have only died 3 times in Elite...
The first was to a ganking little twerp on day one.
The second was a wing of 4 Eagle NPC ships that tore me a new one.
And the third... Lets just say it involved a cat, it's claws, my lap and the toast rack of a Coriolis station.

I have so many close calls I've lost count.

But the most recent close call happened to me in strong signal source. There was lots of gold lying around and I started to contemplate if I should scoop as many as possible.

Well it didn't take long for three Elite Anacondas to warp in and start firing my Viper MKIV. I had to fly in circles to get away from them.

Sticky keys n keyboard malfunction inside the station on a T9.. completely lost sense of direction for a brief moment.. hadto bumps here n there to finally find my way out of the station..
The only thing worked was the joystick,.. oh and T9 great canopy definitely helped.. (yeah and also gear down.. :D )

Apparently game never get the "key-up" for the thruster up (continuous)..

Felt exactly like when I was underwater during open diving license test in high-current muddy-waters..

I know that feeling! that disorientation of where the flip is up right?

haha you should have han solo'd them, land underneath one of the condas and shut down your systems :p

Personally i consider close calls every time i dock with under 5% armor. Not many to be honest, but exhilarating every single time.

Dam right!

I will never forget bringing my Asp back after 2 months in the black with just <20% hull. I'd spent most of the day reading the horror stories of NPC ramming so when I got home it was with absolute terror that I docked.

Fantastic stuff!

This feeling! but also completely forgetting how to dock as you have been out so long :p

Used to have a voice attack macro for 75% thrusters set. Arrived at a star while out exploring and stopped to go for a cig. Some random sound in the room must have sounded like me saying "seventy-five". I turn round to find myself pelting into the star! Just managed to stop before taking damage. After that quickly deleted the macro.

I have to admit: docking with a sliver of hull after some exploration months it's a bigger adrenaline rush than docking in the same condition after a short pvp fight.
