Close Combat Sensor/Radar (??)

Ok, more ideas, cos I'm at work,cold and bored!
Today's terrible idea, that will be ignored is this:
It's kinda hard to explain, so hopefully you can understand.
As most of us combat pilots know, life in a hectic CZ or HazRes can be stressful, as well as fun. But collisions can, and do happen, quite alot. From my experience, its usually when another player is involved, because i believe, its almost impossible to tell where they are in relation to you, when just using the current scanner, or not in your visual arc when looking around.
So my ides is this:
Add an extra 'zoom in' on the current scanner should switch it to a high accuracy, and detail (not too detailed though) radar, pretty much like the planetary landing and docking display, except, that this mode displays all ships, in their current relative position, and correct scale, on your scanner hologram.
It only has a short range, which is based upon the current fitted scanner class.
(So we can avoid your Anaconda taking up your entire hologram, or your vioer being too small to see!).
It can keep the current colour system, red, blue, green orange, purple etc. All targets outside the range, are just the usual icons placed at the edge of the display. Much like the current system.
It should also render asteroids and Stations (for if we ever get to fight around stations)
Not sure how to 'show' stealth ships. Maybe a fuzzy basic outline or 3d triangle.

Maybe I'll try and draw up a quick rendering of it later, may help explain things.

But anyway, this will allow you to see all the ships currently in close proximity to you, all to scale, and correct headings. So you know if your buddy is close by, you won't bounce off him. In theory.

What do you think?

It's essentially a third person camera mode, while being first person. Lol
