Close, too dam close

So after mining around 800k worth of gold and painite etc, i decided to engage the federal drop ship that was giving me grief on my last roid. I got 3 class 3 pulse turrets, 625 shields, Im invincible right?

No....canopy popped, dropships power plant is on 13% and his shields go back up, hang in there, get em down again, power plant 4%, 3, 2, 1, boom, 130k bounty, 6.30 left on a D rated life support, Im at New Yembo 8, Unity station is 1,550ls away, or there abouts, weapons away, no time to go back for my last surviving limpit buddy, send him a quick salute as I rocket away from the ring, peddle to the FSD but Yembo 8 is is holding me back, escape her pull, plain sailing to Unity until Im 450 out....just about to disengage FSD and I get interdicted by pirate, no worries I think, I'm almost there, nope I'm back 3.5km away got get into FSD again but the slight fight I put up to the interdictiction has cost me dearly, FSD comes back on line with 1.45min of support left, but now that big beautiful water world next to me wants me to stay with her, 42 secs to go on air and I pop outa FSD with salvation in sight...and well, the picture tells you the rest

My hands are sweaty now...need tea, really strong tea

You will never, ever forget this day.

Congratulations on getting back by the skin of your teeth - and I hope you have a little reward in mind for your loyal ship which got you home safe and sound. Perhaps an A-rated Life Support and a name? :)

I had a very similar experience two days ago in a little Diamondback Scout I fitted with small beams and torpedoes to go bounty hunting in. I made a fatal error when I engaged an Anaconda all alone with no remaining torpedoes. Canopy blown. Boost. Boost. Thruster malfunction. Heat sink to kill emissions, silent running. Drifting. Repair/reboot. 4 minutes oxygen left, Anaconda has jumped out. Thrusters on 1%. Hull 14%.

Jump to home system. Nearly overshoot station on approach with less than a minute to go, because have to use shattered fragments of canopy to judge ETA. Exit supercruise with 40 seconds left. Backside of Coriolis. Boost. Boost. Oblique approach to rack and slot. 10 seconds. Twist around and crash through slot, losing two shield rings on impact, skid into station. Oxygen Depleted in: 0:02. Atmosphere restored.

Hands shaking. Land slow and gentle. Almost weeping with relief.

Repair. Re-arm.

Go straight to outfitting. Upgrade D Life Support to A.

Name my little scout 'Red Three' and will never, ever sell her.

You're so thankful for the oxygen in the Station airlock and the canopy magic fix. You nearly get a heart attack don't you in life. One day some poor obese kid will die playing games. I hope it's not Elite ;0

Thanks, Yer just sat here now thinking I should name her and upgrade her a bit. Loved the Vulture, loved the FDL, been in love with the asp since 1984....but none have ever saved me like this old bird did, think I've finaly found the ship for me, might take her on an exploration trip

Been there, bought the t-shirt and suffered the consequences. Use to not bother about life support, just kept the E class until I tangled with a Python, lost shields then a windscreen and then had trouble getting to the station. Eventually got to the station to find out it didn't have repair facilities so although my oxygen was replenished I couldn't really go anywhere.:(
Never again I cried, upgraded to a A class Life Support on the Vulture. Next time it happened I calmly left the instant, looked at the System map, worked out that it would be quicker for me to FSD to the adjoining system as the nearest station with repairs was less than 100ls from the spawn point. Made it in plenty of time :D
.
A Class Life Support - Never leave home without it :D
