CMDR Carbs McMooncheese: Log 21.01.3300, local time 21:30
Having just returned from a 1.2k/tonne profit, hauling Crop Harvesters and returning with Coffee, I decided to put the Lakon-6 into the hangar and pull out the trusty Cobra, hoping to search out a bit of action.
Using newly acquired funds, I switched out 2 gimballed multi-cannons in my small hardpoints, and replaced them with gimballed Fragment Cannons. I can only carry 30 rounds, but if I get close enough to a hostile while their shields are down, I can enjoy some decent hull penetration!
Filled with courage, I zipped off to the nearest Conflict Zone to further enhance my Alliance with the locals, and maybe raise my combat rep from Novice. A few battles in, I was tag-teamed by a Cobra and a Python from a neighbouring system.... needless to say, I quickly recognised the need for a hasty retreat! Dodging, weaving, boosting.... continually replenishing my shields as they pounded me into submission.... I was in the process of charging my FrameShift Drive when tragedy - my canopy was compromised! Exposed to the vacuum of space, and with only the barest life support, it was critical to beat a hasty retreat - but hubris would not allow me to retreat until the enemy Cobra had been taught a lesson!
I flicked off Flight Assist, pitched a full 180 to face him, and the beam lasers quickly destroyed his shield. Then 15 rounds of the new frag cannon did the same to his already-weakened hull! That would teach the blighter to mess with Petty Officer Carbs!!
But now I was in dire straits!! Only 2:34 to charge the FSD and get back to the nearest port! Time was of the essence, and with the bravado of impending doom I approached the station without a lock, in an attempt to shave every valuable second off the approach.
A minor overshoot, but able to slingshot back at reasonable pace, I dropped out of FSD with 38 seconds to spare! All power to engines, boosting madly towards the station, I managed to charge through the Coriolis airlock with scarce seconds remaining, and hurriedly slam down into my dock, gulping down the most refreshing breaths of star-port filtered air that I've ever inhaled....
Clearly swayed by my amazing exploits, the Federal Navy have now provided me with a permit to visit the Beta Hydris system, some 94 Light Years from Leerham. The system looks promising, with both agricultural and refinery starports, as well as hosting a planet with Metallic rings! Wait till I tell the boys about this adventure!
