I dropped out next to this promising looking Class F star, and administered the system honk on my scanner. Opening my system map, I saw a number of cloudy worlds... upon further inspection I noticed that Mascalella had beaten me to the discovery of a few beautiful water worlds.

Nevertheless, my quest to the core continues. Since leaving home two days ago I have travelled beyond the borders of civilised space - it was rather shocking to see how human civilisation doesn't just fade away, but more sort of vanishes completely in just a single jump. One moment I'm surrounded by chatter and contact blips on my radar, the next there is complete stone cold silence.

Space is cold.

I forgot to pack thermal socks. I've found myself resorting - already - to wearing three pairs of boot liners and wearing my External Activities Suit boots. Bloody ridiculous. Also, radio chatter has somewhat ground to a halt - the odd message passes by from some other explorer, and we exchange a few pleasantries, but before long they are out of range again and I am alone.

Spotify signal does not extend to out here, either. I have resorted to scanning frequencies and examining odd tones and blips, but this is sure to send me a bit mad.

Never mind... I hope to stumble across a black hole at some point.

I swear these past two systems have been exactly the same... Am I going mad already?

It's getting tedious. My friend is back at base trading and making 1mil runs... Tempting to get home where it is comfortable.

The only thing keeping me going is wanting to see the core! I've plannet to keep going until I make it, god knows where I'll go from there.

This is one commander who's not sure to push on or turn home. That, and I've run out of Doritos.

Drop me a message if you're nearby!

Carry on to the core, its pretty. Your friend may be grinding credits but you are having fun and immortalising your name for the future. Traders just grind and then get forgotten.

Carry on.

I have stumbled upon some about humdingers along the way, including the record for the oldest black hole. Once sold i'll be in the record books :D Moments like that make it worthwhile.

Carry on CMDR, it's a journey on all our lists.

If you do decide to turn back though, there's plenty going on in inhabited space at the moment.

Trouble at t'mill's brewing.

Dear Sarah,

I hope you and the kids are well. Don't forget to sort out Tristan's homework - there's a long line to draw along many, many star systems from home to me! Make sure you note on that I've got plenty of rum to keep me happy when I bed down for the night... actually, maybe don't note that considering he's only 12.

Tell mum I said 'hi' and don't forget to tell your dad to renew his golf subscription... use my discount.

I love you,
Walton

Moving on...

I decided to change my course slightly, I want to stop off at the Cat's Paw Nebula on my way to the Core. I drank too many of my beers last night, and realised that my stocks will soon dwindle and I may have to ration my own alcohol. Brilliant. My water recycler clogged somewhere around the 4,000LY mark and I had to park up by an ammonia planet to get out and scoop out some odd gunk. I swear there were lights on the dark side of the planet, as well. Gave me the creeps, as if I was looking over some city or something. I got out of there sharpish.

Missing home, missing my kid and my wife... and my warm bed. I've started not even going to my quarters on a night time, rather just pointing my ship away from the nearby star and reclining into my cockpit chair and staring out into the void - I try and pin point home, but it's lost amongst the stars now. It was easy at first, when it was just a dot on the horizon.

Still trying to locate the ever elusive black hole - I just want to see one! I passed another lone commander just a few hours ago. We exchanged pleasantries and even some toiletries as he'd run out of 2-ply. Rather embarrassing on his part. He was on his way around the circumference of the Core, rather than right into it like I am. A nice chap, I think he was called Sigsy... I wish him well (and better fortune in the toilet department). Someone should set up an interstellar supermarket for the lone traveller, perhaps to go to distress calls with fresh underwear and toilet paper! My Colgate rations are rather abundant, but Listerine is dwindling. I suppose I don't need fresh breath out here.

Anyway, onwards I plod.

Sarah,

I know you can't send anything back. Just know this... I love you. If I don't make it home, I love you.

Walton

...

My canopy has started to crack. This is not good, really not good. 87% hull, some modules are starting to shut down and I'm nowhere near reaching my goal, there's easily 20,000LY to go... I may have to turn back now.

As I near the Cat's Paw Nebula, there are more and more discovered stars and worlds - relatively busy by explorer standards. I may have to turn back once I reach there, this is rather depressing.

I woke up this morning, at least I think it was morning, my ship's clock failed and I had to reset it - however the time had crashed at 13:13:13 and stayed there for too long. Eerie. Also, I swear I heard footsteps in the canteen yesterday.

Every now and then my radio blips. A chirp, or something, and... no. No, it's nothing.

I wish you could see what I see, Sarah. It's beautiful.

Now, I've started a home brew in the medical lab. Using various chemicals safe for consumption I've been able to concoct a sort of schnapps that doesn't taste half bad!

For now, I've put some polyfiller in the cracks on my windows. That should do it.
