CMDRs I need your help - Crispy Dolphin Heat Bug

How can you look at a voting system as anything less than an admission by FD that they do not have an effective method for tracking and fixing the bugs in the code THEY created. I look at this more of a PR initiative than an actual effective method of fixing bugs. Feels more like an appeasement campaign to make users feel better.

Hey, let's hope I'm proven wrong

The forums are one thing, but how many people will actively search and confirm bugs on the issue tracker....flogging a dead horse imo

I've been having some back and forth with the Frontier rep in the official post on this new bug system, and I'm becoming less and less worried about this new bug reporting system as he answers my questions. He has confirmed what I suspected - there is no need to resubmit bugs that were not "carried over" from the old system, nor do I think (I'm waiting for confirmation) that votes have any weight on how Frontier prioritizes these bugs, though I do question the purpose of votes if this is the case.

Long story short, Frontier knows about Elephant Butt Leather (and overheating Dolphins), and they'll either fix it or they won't, and there's no sense wasting time submitting yet another report. IIRC, of course.

HOWEVER, on rare occasion the heat skyrockets when flying normally over a planet for no apparent reason at all, the same planet that doesn't cause this problem other times.

I posted an opinion (which didn't even on the likely mechanism behind this seemingly random event when I quoted Kenneth, but it was moderated into something else entirely and then my post was deleted when I reported it.

Edit: looks like Ken was able to edit my earlier post due to a permissions issue. Not sure if he was agreeing with me or jerking me around, but at least the mods aren't to blame, whatever the case may be.

Anyone know of a shipyard in the Colonia area that sells the dolphin? Maybe I'll be allowed to speak my piece if I can demonstrate it.

Hey Kenneth Mcgrew,

Thanks for your report - I've previously had this reported and raised this with the ship designers. This is working as intended.

Stay safe out there

Ummm...

Link no longer works to the thread in the forums, but I did find that in the Google cache of the old forum.

Anyway, as I was saying earlier, I'm pretty sure the phenomena shown in the video is not random. Regardless, being able to reproduce it would make it easier for a new bug report to be tested if there are those still convinced things aren't working the way they should.

Just engineering up my Dolphin which has sat in the hanger since way back in v2.x

First off the additional new 2 small slots in the April update gives the Dolphin 9 optionals which is fantastic, since outside the unobtainable Cobra MkIV it has more slots then any other small ship, and even beats some medium ships like the AspX (8) or Type-6 (8).

Second I have found this bug as well.

If I maximize the speed of the Dolphin, and turn it 90 degrees to the horizon on a planet and simply go in circles (Joystick pulled fully down) my maximum temperature is about 62%, dropping to 18% if I leave the joystick in idle (but travel at full speed)).

If I start changing the angle to my horizon so that it is less than 90 degrees (while still going in circles, but trying to keep the planet horizon in view), then the temperature starts to increase. At less than about 70-80 degrees things start to get quite toasty and at about 45 degrees the temperature will climb very rapidly. If I then resume the original 90 degree angle to the horizon (or become horizontal) the Dolphin will cool down from that overheating state.

In any case the issue can be seen by setting your Dolphin to maximum speed and then trying to circle around, keeping the planet horizon centered (well slightly below so you don't crash), but your angle to it at about 45 degrees.

Hmmm....it doesn't seem to work every time, just most times. Entering into a turn after reaching maximum speed appears to work most of the time though.

Just a heads up, just tried this on my newly engineered Imperial Courier and it has the same overheating condition when about 45 degrees to the horizon and going in circles:

Didn't seem quite as bad as the Dolphin (makes sense as the heat capacity is quite a bit higher), but the temperature was still climbing while I was going in circles and holding this angle to the horizon.
