Newcomer / Intro CMDRs of all stripes and experience: How to get the most out of Elite Dangerous

I want our fellow CMDRs to get the most out Elite Dangerous but you have to understand this is far more than a game about seeing cool stuff in space. It's meant to be an experience that is just as much about personal empowerment. If you want to get more out of Elite Dangerous you need to do the following pronto or review your Codex Archive if you have already:

0) Read the official novel "Docking is Difficult". Remember, the game is very much a personal journey (with an emphasis on personal) even according to Frontier Developments.

1) Go to Etain and visit the Far God Cult at The Prophet and The Sanctum (bodies 4a and 4c respectively). Do not listen to the logs until you have all 9 and can listen to them in order. Odd are at one site and even the other. You don't need weapons, though, don't be surprised if there are curious visitors

2) Go to Lave and read the tourist beacons then go to Teorge. Listen to what Salome has to say. Also, keep in mind where the clone ships were supposed to have gone. You might be in for a surprise

3) Read descriptions on everything (from the random loot you pick up for cash) to the commodities in station to system descriptions.

4) Pay attention to your surroundings and mentally note oddities from sounds to visuals.

5) Read the old lore and compare it with what your are told. Make up your own mind on what you believe - handy reference here: http://www.dream-ware.co.uk/

6) Read up on names of places. The story is subtle.

7) Trust your instincts.

8) Follow the ever handy Carl Sagan's Baloney Detection Kit if in doubt. See https://www.themarginalian.org/2014/01/03/baloney-detection-kit-carl-sagan/

9) Life doesn't have to perfect to be wonderful. Sometimes you find the most amazing things in the unexpected places. (edited)

I think some people would find that all a bit boring. Personally, I prefer to go and shoot the bad guys.

The story isn't as clear cut as that, unfortunately. Look deeper and read the other novels, too. For example, the founders of the Alliance (Mic Turner and Meredith Argent) are not exactly the heroes they are sometimes portrayed as and their marriage was arranged for political reasons (see "Controversy at Film Festival - GalNet - 03 August 3305 - https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/5d4447c3cc951c6f4f5c9ffd ). Note where the film festival took place. This is similar to Jedi Marriage Law where if they did get married it was a marriage to push an agenda and not for love. In fact, Jedi's were actively discouraged from marriage as attachment could lead to the dark side - more info here: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Marriage/Legends ). Long story short, be wary of blindly believing what you are told. The truth of the matter is rarely so simple.

I want our .....

I have to be honest and say that I think this would suck the soul out of an actual new commander. I mean, seriously, there is a complete sub-forum to post this in and follow your dreams as a lore-ranger:

To any actually new commander reading this thread - forget it for now, the lore is there when (and if) you want to delve into it but do not be tempted to follow the 10-step program above unless you are sure it appeals.
