C'mon, this is faintly ridiculous.

That is the accepted practise 🤷‍♂️

I've had some splendid 'debates' here where the simplest solution is to agree to disagree and give up, because, as we all know, opinion is 100% correct, even when others disagree with it.
I swear to god my next response will be "NO U!"

opinion is objectively 100% correct. Especially when you don't know the meaning of 'objectively' ;)

And I disagree with your opinion that upkeep is bad game design. Now what? We'll just go around in circles at this stage.

Well, I laid out my reasons for it being bad design. If your position is based solely on "but I like it!" or "Because!" That's not really convincing. So far you haven't offered anything other than you don't object to it. Especially in the face of my assertion that you can have your real time upkeep if it's tied to specific services, there's no reason we can't both have what we want.

That was a big part of my objection to Morbad: there's a way, without significant effort, for FDEV to give us both what we want. If you object to that, it's not really about a debate over the game's design anymore.

Of course I'm comparing it to that - that's literally the point I was making.
Fast and agile is defined by the upper limits, not the lower/middle mediocrity of large ships. Fast and agile is exclusive to small ships. :)
They're the best in the game at it, and large/medium ships can't compete.

I guess you could say a UPS van might be faster than a dumptruck, but your argument is basically like claiming this means the UPS van is fast when there's an F1 Ferrari sitting for sale right there beside it, nearly for free at a fraction of the price UPS want for that brown 'fast' van.

Of course, this is only important if you like the fun and challenge of flying ships that are actually fast and agile. If you don't, that's cool. Go haul some mail or save a village or somethin'.

Yeah, fast and fastest make no sense if they are synonyms.

640 is fast, in fact I'd put fast at anything over 500.

YMMV but it behooves you to define what you mean when making a subjective claim.

I call the iCourier durable, but its from a combination of shields and maneuverability.

Fast and fastest aren't synonyms though. However, in terms of subjectivity...

I consider 640 middling, and 500 slow, because I pretty much only fly ships that fly 745 -> 932 on a regular basis.
The only ship I generally make an exception for is the Viper mk4, because its agility makes up for it's slowness. I consider anything large to be not worth my time flying.

In terms of objectivity, If the fastest ship can fly 932...then 500 is clearly not 'fast'. It's middle ground at best.
Remember also I spoke about fast and agile. No large ship qualifies on these criteria, when given the available range across all ships.

Better to say "it's a fast large". Then I'd say - "yeah, so it's overall crap in terms of speed and agility then".

Let it go dude. Have a beer. This conversation has left the matter of speed and agility behind, in favour of design, money and grind.
I'm still laughing at the T10 thing though when I think of it.
