CM's a Question for the devs? - Just where is the combat triangle, exactly?

Taken from the video linked below about the combat in Odyssey.

I pulled out several relevant sections where I am struggling to see the intended design come through.

One of the key elements of Odyssey's combat is what we consider the Combat Triangle.
"Key elements" - Not, additional interesting part, not, something that could potentially happen sometimes - KEY element.
This is making me truly wonder if I am doing something wrong? Because I haven't really seen any of this, and I've been in quite a bit of combat.

For the first time we're seeing on-foot commanders, SRV's, ships, all converging into this really unique experience.
I've played a decent bit of the expansion now and I'm not sure I've seen this really. I could use a hand finding this because it sounds really really nice.

All of these elements actually join together. So the combat can span from surface all the way into space.
Hm... I'm not sure I've seen this either really. Is there a mission type I am missing or- some other element of the gameplay I've overlooked?

I would greatly appreciate it if the CM's could ask this question of the devs/designers when they start having these monthly dev chats, because I feel like I might be missing out on something - either that, or they haven't managed to get everything working as designed yet? Not sure.

Look forward to hearing from them about this.

Not necessarily exactly what you are meaning here as far as group type play, but my typical solo play actually incorporates all of this. Bombard the settlement from the sky in my ship. Disembark in my SRV and take care of the rest of the guards outside, then go on foot and clean up the rest.

as with most anything in life ... it is what you make it!

all the tools are there for you in the game.
and you and your friends or foes can do exactly what those devs are saying!

is it that hard to grasp?
i dont think so ...

I get the nagging feeling that "Sphere of Combat" is the only advertised feature that is actually bare-bones in the released game, it did go silent specifically in the run up to Alpha. I am wondering if it got pushed back as a "post launch content", possibly even got delayed by the Ship Balancing task that we were told that would happen after Odyssey launched ie balancing ships. SRVs and foot fps is no small task? Maybe it was thought more sensible to develop it further when other SRVs appear (surely they will at some point?). It's interesting that it was mentioned this week that dev are "discussing" multi-part missions that use ship and on foot sections. I didnt get the impression that sphere of combat was meant to be entirely fabricated by the player themselves, more like something that could be generated by the game, like a specfic type of conflict zone that consisted of air and ground battles. Hmmm.

I'm not at all talking about multiplayer actually, in fact, I'm almost specifically talking about solo.

It does say "key element" though - and, while you can bombard from the air... it's not really very well represented, you just... nuke them with dumbfires with little to no resistance, I've done it, it doesn't feel like a key element of the combat, it feels like a cheap shot that almost feels like exploiting some kind of hole in the design when I do it.

As for the SRV, sure, it "works" but the settlements don't seem to really fit for it due to the size of the SRV - and most if not all of the combat is inside the settlements - there's not really anything to make travel between then under fire or while firing on other SRV's (NPC's don't even use them) a "thing" certainly not a "key element" of the design of the combat.

As I said, I'm asking about what the dev/designer meant by a "Key element" being the combat triangle.

If it was a tangential extra born of the general design of the game, ok sure - but it being a key element suggests they designed things around it specifically, rather than it simply being "possible"

Welcome to Odyssey. That being said, unfortunatly the CM's don't answer questions on the forums. If you want answers you will have to ask your questions on Tuesdays in the stream to have a chance to get an answer.
Well they have been assigning one to the forums every day so I thought I would give it a shot.

They are also doing some kind of dev chat things soon, so I'm hoping this will get picked up to some extent for one of those.

It just seems very odd some designers would say these quite specific things about it - only for it to not be very obvious when I get into the game. Maybe I just read into it too much but the wording does seem pretty clear to be honest.

Sally is awesome. I'm not sure they'll have an answer for this without some discussions with designers though? Maybe I'm wrong there too.
Well, as my Grandad used to say, if you don't ask, you don't get ... so, let's see if she knows and can assist - I am interested in what they meant too.

I think they were talking about possibility of player interactions - not necceserily NPC's driving SRVs and NPC ships attacking settlements at the same time.
After all, this is MMO and they worked really hard to make this a prority in Odyssey.
In Combat Zones players can use ships, SRVs and fight on foot against eachother and bot footsoldiers.🤷‍♂️

That being said, I remember that some time ago (last year or so) Frontier was looking for someone with experience in AI programming that involved making AI capable of driving and avoiding obstacles (or something along this lines). I wonder if they found anyone.
