Coaster Element Tutorials

Nice tutorials. I'd used your vertical drop one previously. It would be great if you could keep a catalogue of these with images throughout the thread.

Great set of tutorials which I am sure quite a few of us (including myself, especially for the Plaza's) will find helpful. This needs to be made a Sticky, please Brett! [up] [up] [up]

So a quick update, alpha 2 is really inconsistent with ride smoothing.. sometimes it works a treat others it goes horribly wrong. I am yet to find a way to do a consistent custom vertical loop that doesn't take 20 minutes of tweaking and smoothing. The method i posted above is unreliable at best. Funny enough the butterfly inversion still works really well. It can be transformed into a vertical loop but it is not quick to do.

Current progress. Custom vertical loop and butterfly inversion.

Hello, resurfacing this thread because I'm currently trying to build a wing coaster with an inverted drop but I just can't smooth it out properly no matter how much I spam the smooth button. If anyone can provide a tutorial that'll be just fine. [squeeeeee]

The game doesnt have a continuous roll option so you can't make it smooth at all.

Nice initiative. It's a shame they never really fixed the elements eventhough alot of people requested it. They always enter the special elements completely straight, which kinda s*cks if you wanna make a corkscrew right after a turn for example.

Also: would be nice if we were able to set the snap distance to smaller than 11.25 degrees. That way you could make it even more straight.

It would be awesome if we could save our own custom inversions/track pieces.
A realistic corkscrew is quite a lot of work and it would save so much time if you could just click on your previously made inversion, place it and change its size accordingly.

Took it upon myself to perfect the drop after quite some doing today. :D

While it is impossible to get it completely smooth (as commented by Chems above), I realised it was just about experimenting with the smooth tool and paying extra attention to the transitions. I also made the twist itself around 16m long (4x 4m pieces), with two extra 4m pieces on the end transitioning into the drop for smoothing out the twist a little more. This was also built of course on a very slight slope (around 2.41 degrees) like inverted drops are in the real world. :)

EDIT: Note that a lot of progress has been made on the layout of the coaster throughout the day since the screenshots were taken. The final result may be posted in another thread later on.
