Coaster smoothy smooth

Why does it feel like the coasters arent smoothening as good as in the fix from alpha 2?

My coasters feels like they are jerkier than last alpha, and takes way longer to get really smooth becaues of that.

I also noticed that its really hard to get your coaster smooth especially when you make small curves or lots of direction changes. But i think they are still optimizing it. [yesnod]

I think the "user-problem" is the following:
If you click on the magic smoothy smooth button for smothing all.. the radius will increase. The loop will be smaller and the helix will be tighter. But however, the connections between the track pieces (wich will be smoothed out) don´t change. That results in a wonky wonk smoothy smooth shaping. I hope that is understandable.

If you click on the banking smoothy smooth button, the smoothing will be forced to go "outside" instead of smoothing the transitions. So you have to re-correct the banking and smooth it again. My tip: try to smooth the banking at only 2 segments along the whole track.

I LOVE the new possibilities, like inversions and such. But i think, the smoothy smooth-er could be improved a little bit more.

I also recommend ( :D ) to over-work the prefab corcscrews. The lead in is way too tight and destroys every well made layout until the corcscrew kicks in ;)

Just my two cents.

I could create coasters with invertions just as smooth as i can in NoLimits, and i can still get a close to perf result now, it just takes way longer than previous alpha, especially the corkscrews. I could easily create non-jerky corkscrews in last alpha, now i cant get em quite as good. :p

I tend to smooth only about two sections at a time because curves do shrink with excessive smoothing. Doing it that way tends to yield a good result while leaving a lot of it in my control.

Thank you a lot! That tip is great and it works :D

Mostly because, i tried to build with short segments but it still isn´t smooth as it could be. I think i could live with the overall smoothing for straight tracks. But i really, really hope that the banking transitions will be much smoother, than they are for now. We have this awesome free form tool to build awesome coasters. Only the banking smoothy smooth could be better =)

I can´t find the thread, but someone mentioned it would be better to have a uniform track to place different coaster car types on them. I don´t think it is a good idea at all.

And look how accurate and realistic Frontier has made the tracks:

Every coaster is having it´s own and realistic track witdh! [up][heart][up][heart][up][heart]

That is just phenomenal! And the matter because all is just right! :D I so much love the effort and LOVE Frontier put into Planet Coaster. I recently felt in love with their game/simulation. And it´s "only" the Alpha 3!

Cheers[up]

Hmm the smoothing tools requires some clicks but then eventually it will smooth out

Im more worried about the insanely high friction

In rct3 a 23m drop would easily get you over a 21m hill, with decent speed, something which is impossible in planet coaster, here a 23m drop would nearly go over a 18m hill or something

For some reason, i really like the new friction. But i´m on the lonely side with that, it seems xD
If it would changed too much i have to place trimm brakes, than.

I don´t think either, that RCT3 is a right place to compare. More No Limits 2. It has a very realistic friction and physics. [big grin]

So far i had tested the friction, if i lower a 90° curve after the lift a tiny bit, the train still rolling like it would be in real life. So much wrong it can´t be. It just needs some fine tuning in my opinion [wink]

Nah i'm good with it too, but i think that's because i'd be good with either lol :D But its definitely more realistic than RCT3 taht was weird friction, and then you could 'oil' the tracks as well so there would be almost none.
NoLimits is also more of a simulation tool than an actual game in my eyes, its so perfect XD

I nitpicked a littel with the smoothing tool and i got pretty much everything but the corkscrew perfect, which is odd, because i could make supe rsmooth corkscrews in alpha 2 [weird][weird]
